Provides regional medical leadership for palliative care, end-of-life care, and MAiD services across IH West, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, service integration, physician engagement, and alignment with Interior Health's strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership &
- Service Development
- Leads and supports the delivery, quality, and continuous improvement of palliative, end-of-life, and MAiD services across the region.
- Promotes integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary palliative care services.
- Provides leadership and direction to physicians delivering palliative and end-of-life care in both community and facility settings.
- Collaborates with clinical leaders, operational partners, Divisions of Family Practice, MAiD teams, and regional palliative care programs.
Clinical Quality &
- Safety
- Ensures care decisions align with patient needs and evidence-based best practices.
- Participates in audits, chart reviews, incident investigations, accreditation activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Develops and supports standards, protocols, policies, and monitoring processes for palliative and end-of-life care.
- Reviews practice concerns, patient issues,
and sentinel events, and supports region-wide MAiD providers.
Strategic &
- System Leadership
- Contributes to regional and provincial palliative care strategies and aligns physician practice with organizational and government priorities.
- Identifies and addresses system-level issues affecting service delivery.
- Supports a palliative approach for individuals with advancing life-limiting illness and fosters interprofessional research and innovation.
Education &
- Physician Support
- Promotes physician education, continuing medical education, and best practices in palliative and end-of-life care.
- Assists with physician recruitment, retention, credentialing, privileging, performance evaluation, and skilled practice concerns.
Accountability &
- Term
- Accountable, in partnership with the Senior Medical Director, for planning, operations, performance, and quality of regional PCEOL services.
- Appointment is up to two years, renewable based on satisfactory annual performance reviews.
