Company Overview

Street Haven at the Crossroads offers women experiencing or at risk of homelessness a pathway to safety, stability, and personal empowerment. Through emergency shelter, supportive housing, addiction recovery programs, and skills training, they deliver integrated, compassionate services that help women rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Addiction, Mental Health and Outreach Services, the therapist will be an integral part of a trauma-informed addictions treatment program dedicated to supporting women in their recovery journey, with a primary service location at our emergency shelter. Working in collaboration with the manager and multidisciplinary team, you will provide individual and group psychotherapy, helping clients address the psychological and emotional challenges related to addiction, mental health, and trauma.

Utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches, you will assist clients in developing healthier coping mechanisms, improving emotional regulation, and fostering resilience. Your role will include assessing clients' mental health needs, creating tailored treatment plans, and facilitating therapeutic interventions that prioritize safety, empowerment, and recovery.

As part of Street Haven’s commitment to culturally responsive and anti-oppressive practice, we are seeking an individual who has demonstrated experience and success serving and representing racialized women to better reflect and respond to the lived experiences of the women we serve, particularly those accessing services at our shelter location.

This position is also aligned with the City of Toronto’s shelter initiatives that prioritize culturally responsive service delivery, including Community Action Based Responses (CABR), Afrocentric and Afro-Caribbean–focused supports, and approaches that recognize the impacts of anti-Black racism, colonialism, and systemic inequities. The successful candidate will contribute to care that is culturally grounded, strengths-based, and responsive to the diverse identities, histories, and realities of women accessing emergency shelter services.

By adopting a trauma-informed and client-centered approach, you will create a compassionate, non-judgmental space for women to heal and learn skills to address their mental health concerns.

· Create a supportive, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed therapeutic setting

· Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic, coordinated care and provide feedback on client progress

· Foster resilience and empowerment through therapeutic interventions grounded in harm reduction and recovery-oriented practice

· Employ an anti-oppressive, anti-racism, and trauma-informed lens in all therapeutic interactions, ensuring that all clients feel respected, valued, and understood

Key Competencies

· Clinical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of psychotherapy techniques and evidence-based therapeutic practices

· Trauma-Informed Care: Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed approaches and an understanding of the impact of trauma on mental health and substance use

· Empathy and Compassion: Ability to support clients with complex needs in a respectful, non-judgmental manner

· Group Facilitation Skills: Experience facilitating therapeutic groups that encourage engagement, safety, and peer connection

· Emotional Intelligence: Strong ability to support emotional processing, self-reflection, and personal growth

· Cultural Responsiveness: Lived and professional experience supporting diverse communities, with the ability to provide culturally responsive and anti-oppressive care

· Collaboration: Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment

· Ethical Practice: Commitment to qualified ethics, confidentiality, and privacy standards

· Documentation and Record-Keeping: Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, legislative, and legal requirements

· Legal Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

Qualifications and Experience

· Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Psychotherapy, Counselling Psychology, and/or a combination of relevant education and work experiences

· Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant regulatory body (e.g., OCSWSSW, CRPO) preferred
