: The Diabetes Nurse Educator integrates knowledge, skills and the principles of teaching and learning, in the provision of diabetes education and quality care for clients, families, the general public and health professionals. Teaching can occur in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, with individuals or groups. The incumbent is responsible for assessing learning needs and planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities for clients/families/health professionals.
The Diabetes Nurse
Educator will use a consultative approach, accepted standards and guidelines and current research findings to provide support to clients and health care professionals as appropriate. The position may have specific responsibilities requiring specialized clinical knowledge to meet the client's needs such as diabetes in pregnancy or children with diabetes.

Experience
- Three (3) years related clinical experience in the specialty area
- Experience in teaching adults, facilitation skills, and leading group activities
- One (1) year experience in adult education or a teaching role
- Experience in program/resource development
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Licenses
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
- Basic Life Support Instructor Certificate (BLS)
- Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
- Demonstrates ability to work as a team member
- Knowledge in learning and teaching principles
- Ability to organize work load demands
- Ability to be self-directed
- Ability to empathize with clients while remaining objective
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development

- Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- Must attain and maintain membership in the Diabetes Educator Sector of the CDA
