minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs)
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Within the context of a client and family-centred framework and continuum based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision and values of the organization, including Indigenous Cultural Safety, cultural humility and anti-racism principles, the Nurse Clinician/CRN provides leadership and applies specialized theory and knowledge relating to designated/specific patient/client populations to promote the delivery of safe, ethical and quality care. Acts as a clinical resource by providing consultation and clinical support to the interdisciplinary care team, other professionals and students. Promotes excellence in patient/client centred care, education and research.
Participates in direct patient/client and family care, when required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Completion of post basic specialty nursing certificate/program if applicable and three (3) years' recent,
related experience in the designated specialized clinical area or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for local area travel may be required.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient/client care.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally on a one to one and group setting.
Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
Demonstrated ability to lead change and support staff through transition.
Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the assessment and treatment of specialized patient/client population utilizing best available evidence informed practice.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver educational programs and materials for staff/patients/clients and families based on educations theories, principles and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to promote a supportive and creative learning workplace.
Knowledge of research process and methodology.
Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system as well as applicable word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications.
Ability to operate related equipment.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
Details
Clinical experience required with clients who range in age from Pediatric to Geriatric in the prevention and management of diabetes, including type 1, type 2 and Gestational. Provide education in both group settings and in individual 1:1 appointments. The position will also work closely with inpatient units to provide diabetes education at bedside. Knowledge of diabetes insulin pumps and CDE certificate an asset
