About Beyond 18 Disability Services

Beyond 18 Disability Services is a growing Oshawa-based organization providing structured day programming, respite, clinical services, and community-based supports for children, youth, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our programs are designed to support meaningful growth in areas such as communication, daily living skills, independence, social development, emotional regulation, sensory regulation, fine motor development, vocational readiness, and community participation.

As our clinical services continue to expand, we are building a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Behaviour Analysts, Instructor Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Communicative Disorders Assistants, and developmental support professionals.

We are seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to support the implementation of individualized occupational therapy programs under the direction and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.

Position Summary The Occupational Therapy Assistant will work with children, youth, and adults with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, sensory processing needs, and other functional support needs.

The OTA will support the implementation of occupational therapy treatment plans, functional skill-building activities, sensory strategies, fine motor programs, self-care routines, and other interventions established by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

This is a part-time onsite position with the potential to expand as our clinical caseload grows.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working within a community-based, multidisciplinary environment and supporting clients across clinical, day program, respite, after-school, and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement occupational therapy treatment programs developed and directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Provide individual and small-group intervention sessions within the established treatment plan.
- Support clients in developing fine motor, visual-motor, coordination, self-care, and functional daily living skills.
- Support the implementation of sensory regulation strategies and sensory-based activities as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Assist clients with activities of daily living, including dressing, hygiene, feeding routines, toileting, meal preparation, and other functional tasks where appropriate and within the established care plan.
- Support skill development related to independence, community participation, leisure, vocational readiness, and daily routines.
- Prepare therapy materials, adaptive equipment, visual supports, and activities based on the Occupational Therapist's recommendations.




- Assist with the implementation of environmental modifications and adaptive strategies prescribed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Observe client participation, responses, progress, and challenges during therapy sessions.
- Collect data and maintain accurate documentation related to therapy implementation and client progress.
- Report relevant observations and concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Support the generalization of functional skills across clinical, day program, home, respite, and community environments where appropriate.
- Reinforce strategies developed by the Occupational Therapist in collaboration with program staff and families.
- Collaborate with Behaviour Analysts, Instructor Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Communicative Disorders Assistants, developmental support staff, families, and other professionals as appropriate.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, supervision, and training sessions as required.
- Maintain therapy spaces, materials, and equipment in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
- Follow established infection prevention, health and safety, privacy, documentation, and confidentiality procedures.
- Work within the OTA role and follow all direction, supervision, and delegation requirements established by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Contribute to the continued development of occupational therapy programming within Beyond 18 Disability Services.

Qualifications The successful candidate should have:
- Diploma or recognized post-secondary education as an Occupational Therapist Assistant / Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA), Occupational Therapy Assistant, or equivalent relevant training.
- Experience working with children, youth, and/or adults with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, or complex developmental needs is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of functional skill development, activities of daily living, sensory regulation, fine motor skills, and adaptive strategies.
- Ability to follow individualized treatment plans and clinical direction accurately.
- Strong observation and documentation skills.
- Robust verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with clients who have diverse communication, behavioural, sensory, and support needs.
- Ability to work independently within assigned responsibilities while maintaining appropriate clinical supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate, patient, respectful,



and person-centred approach.
- Ability to work onsite in Oshawa.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.

Preferred Experience Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Pediatric or developmental occupational therapy.
- Autism and developmental disability services.
- Occupational therapy clinics or multidisciplinary clinical settings.
- Adult day programs.
- Respite, after-school, school, residential, or community-based settings.
- Sensory regulation and sensory-based programming.
- Fine motor and visual-motor skill development.
- Activities of daily living and functional independence training.
- Feeding, dressing, hygiene, and toileting support.
- Adaptive equipment and environmental modifications.
- Group-based therapeutic programming.
- Working under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist.
- Multidisciplinary care teams.

They will also be comfortable working collaboratively with families, clinical professionals, and frontline staff to help clients build independence across different environments.
