As our team continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and passionate Online English Tutor to join Gateway Tutoring Academy.

The Role

We are looking for an English tutor who is confident working with students in areas such as:

- English Language Arts
- Reading comprehension
- Essay writing and academic writing
- Grammar and sentence structure
- Literary analysis
- Vocabulary development
- Research assignments
- Presentation and communication skills
- Exam and test preparation

The ideal candidate should be comfortable supporting students across different grade levels and adapting lessons based on each student's needs, learning style, and academic goals.

This position is fully online, and tutoring sessions are conducted one on one or occasionally in small groups.

Responsibilities

As an English Tutor and Academic Mentor, you will:

- Provide engaging and personalized online English tutoring sessions
- Help students strengthen reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, and critical thinking skills
- Support students with essays, assignments, projects, and exam preparation
- Identify areas where students may have gaps in their foundational English skills
- Develop strategies to help students become more independent and confident learners
- Prepare appropriately for tutoring sessions when necessary
- Maintain accurate session notes and student progress updates
- Communicate professionally with Gateway Tutoring Academy's administrative and mentorship team
- Follow Gateway Tutoring Academy's academic and operational procedures
- Build positive and encouraging relationships with students




- Provide consistent availability and maintain scheduled tutoring commitments

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have:

- A Bachelor's degree completed or currently in progress
- A strong academic background in English, Education, Humanities, Communications, or a related field
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or educational experience
- Strong knowledge of essay writing, grammar, literary analysis, and reading comprehension
- The ability to explain difficult concepts clearly and patiently
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- A reliable computer, stable internet connection, webcam, and quiet professional workspace

Preferred Qualifications The following are considered strong assets:

- Experience teaching high school English, particularly Grades 8 to 12
- Familiarity with the British Columbia curriculum
- Experience with English 10, English 11, or English 12
- Experience supporting IB or AP English students
- Experience preparing students for provincial assessments, university level writing, or standardized exams
- Education or teaching credentials
- Experience working with students who have different learning needs

Schedule





This is a part time position with flexible online hours.

Most tutoring takes place during weekday afternoons and evenings and on weekends.

Candidates who can maintain consistent weekly availability will be prioritized.

There may also be opportunities to take on additional students as Gateway Tutoring Academy continues to grow.

Compensation

Starting compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on education, teaching experience, subject expertise, and qualifications.

Additional opportunities and increased responsibilities may become available for strong performing mentors as the academy continues to expand.
