Operations & Project Manager
Airmaxx Plus Inc.
Airmaxx Plus Inc. is a growing mechanical contracting company specializing in commercial and institutional HVAC, plumbing, hydronics, gas fitting, sheet metal, mechanical insulation, and related mechanical construction services.
We are looking for an experienced Operations & Project Manager to join our management team. This is a senior operational role for someone who understands mechanical construction, is comfortable managing people and projects, and can help oversee the day-to-day operations of a growing contracting company.
The successful candidate will work closely with ownership and our Office Manager and will provide leadership and oversight to our Project Managers, Junior Project Managers, field supervisors, and project teams.
This position is ideal for someone who has progressed through mechanical construction or project management and is ready to take on broader operational responsibility.
Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Assist ownership with the day-to-day management of company operations.
- Coordinate manpower, project priorities, scheduling, equipment, materials, and resources across multiple active projects.
- Work closely with Project Managers and field supervisors to ensure projects are properly staffed and progressing according to schedule.
- Identify operational issues early and develop solutions before they impact project schedules, costs, or clients.
- Assist with short- and long-term manpower planning.
- Monitor project performance, productivity, scheduling, and operational risks.
- Help develop, implement, and enforce company procedures and internal processes.
- Improve communication between management, project teams, field staff, administration, and accounting.
- Assist ownership with operational planning as the company continues to grow.
Project Management
- Manage selected mechanical construction projects directly.
- Oversee project budgets, labour, schedules, purchasing, subcontractors, equipment, and materials.
- Review project costs and identify cost overruns or performance concerns.
- Prepare, review, and manage change orders.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, project documentation, and closeout requirements.
- Review contracts, scopes of work, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Coordinate with general contractors, consultants, owners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Attend project meetings as required.
- Assist with project negotiations, disputes, scheduling issues, and other significant project matters.
Project Management Team Leadership
- Provide day-to-day leadership and support to Project Managers and Junior Project Managers.
- Review active projects with PMs regularly.
- Assist PMs with problem solving, prioritization, planning, and decision-making.
- Review project budgets, labour performance, purchasing, change orders, schedules, and outstanding documentation.
- Mentor and develop junior members of the project management team.
- Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for deadlines and responsibilities.
- Ensure project issues are properly managed before they require escalation to ownership.
Office & Administrative Support
- Work closely with the Office Manager to improve coordination between operations and administration.
- Assist with job setup, purchasing, purchase orders, billing information, documentation, project closeouts, and internal deadlines.
- Help ensure project information is accurate and provided to accounting and administration on time.
- Assist with improving document control and project management systems.
- Support the implementation and enforcement of company policies and procedures.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in commercial or institutional mechanical construction, project management, or construction operations.
- Minimum 3–5 years of project management experience.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical construction, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronics, piping, sheet metal, and related systems.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing Project Managers, Coordinators, or construction staff.
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, labour tracking, job costing, purchasing, change orders, and project forecasting.
- Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, contracts, and scopes of work.
- Robust understanding of construction schedules and project sequencing.
- Experience dealing with general contractors, consultants, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to hold others accountable while maintaining positive working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
- Strong computer skills and experience with construction management and Microsoft Office platforms.
- Valid driver's licence.
Assets The following would be considered strong assets:
- Previous experience working for a mechanical contractor.
- Experience managing commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, or municipal construction projects.
- Mechanical trade background such as plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, sheet metal, pipefitting, or gas fitting.
- Experience progressing from the field into project management or operations.
- Experience managing a team of Project Managers.
- Experience with Buildertrend, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- Experience with project forecasting and work-in-progress reporting.
- Experience reviewing construction contracts and managing contractual notices.
- Experience with mechanical estimating.
- Experience with bonded construction projects.

Compensation Competitive compensation will be offered based on experience and qualifications.
Compensation may include salary, vehicle or vehicle allowance, benefits, performance incentives, and other components depending on the successful candidate.
