Full-time, permanent | Fully remote (Canada) | Jade Consulting Inc.
Who we are
Who We Are
We're Jade Consulting, and we're looking for a new Payroll & Accounting Specialist to join our team.
We are a fully remote, female founded and run, cloud accounting and bookkeeping practice with a mission to bring the human touch to accounting and provide unparalleled guidance to entrepreneurs.
We work with scaling entrepreneurs, typically between $1 million and $10 million in gross revenue, to build and maintain their financial and operational infrastructure so they have a solid financial foundation on which to grow their businesses.
About The Role
We use only the latest cloud-based technology to make bookkeeping, payroll and business finance a breeze, and let our clients focus on building their businesses rather than their books. If you take initiative, are eager to learn and grow, and thrive in a multi-client, quick-paced environment, we want to hear from you.
About the role
This is a hybrid accounting and payroll role. Payroll is the main event, roughly 60 percent of your week, and the remaining 40 percent is monthly bookkeeping and accounting.
You will coordinate, prepare, and process payroll for your own group of clients, administer their benefits programs in accordance with established practices and employment standards, and oversee and reconcile the government remittances and year-end reporting that go with it. You'll also be the friendly, knowledgeable person your clients come to with their payroll questions.
What You'll Do
Payroll
• Process payroll accurately and on time for weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly clients.
• Input, calculate, verify, and enter all payroll transactions, including new hires, terminations and ROEs, salary and status changes, and off-cycle payments, while meeting regulatory compliance across Canada.
• Calculate vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, overtime, and termination pay in line with employment standards.
• Administer taxable benefits and deductions related to Employee Advantages programs, including enrolments, changes, and terminations which directly impact payroll.
• Prepare and reconcile monthly, quarterly,
and annual government remittances, including CRA source deductions, EHT, WSIB, and RRSP.
• Own year-end balancing and tax reporting, including T4s, T4As, EHT annual reconciliations, and WSIB annual returns.
• Set up new payroll clients, including mapping earnings and deduction codes to the chart of accounts.
• Communicate with clients, their employees, and internal team members on payroll matters, in writing and verbally.
• Keep learning through the National Payroll Institute and other resources, including annual legislative updates and seminars.
• Update and maintain payroll procedures, guides, and other documentation.
Accounting
• Prepare, review, and post payroll journal entries, with allocations by department where required.
• Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts, including payroll clearing, source deductions payable, accrued wages, and vacation accrual.
• Record and reconcile daily transactions, including bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany transactions.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts, and prepare and file sales tax remittances.
• Support month-end and year-end close, including supporting schedules and assisting with financial statement preparation.
Qualifications And Experience
- PCP designation through the National Payroll Institute, held or in progress, strongly preferred.
• CPB designation, held or in progress, strongly preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience processing payroll.
• One to three years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Knowledge of Ontario payroll legislation and employment standards, including source deductions, EHT, WSIB, statutory holidays, vacation pay, and overtime. Experience with payroll in other provinces is an asset.
• Working knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations, and procedures, including year-end.
• Experience with payroll platforms such as Wagepoint, Knit, ADP, Ceridian, or Dayforce, an asset
• Knowledge of accounting practices is essential, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online is an asset.
• Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Excel a must.
• Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent team player who is highly client service oriented.
• Sound judgement and a critical thinker.
• Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
