Our client is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead a high-volume manufacturing operation in Calgary. This is an prospect for a hands-on leader who is passionate about building strong teams, driving operational excellence, and creating a culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Plant Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of the facility, including production, safety, quality, inventory, maintenance, cost control, and employee development. The successful candidate will be a visible presence on the production floor, leading by example and ensuring operational goals are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee all day-to-day manufacturing operations.
- Ensure production targets, delivery schedules, and customer commitments are met.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Drive accountability and execution across all departments.
Health & Safety
- Foster and maintain a strong safety-first culture.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and workplace safety standards.
- Lead safety initiatives, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.
Team Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop supervisors and production teams.
- Create a culture of accountability, engagement, and high performance.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and leadership development.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure products consistently meet quality standards and customer expectations.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement programs.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
Financial & Inventory Management
- Manage labour, material, maintenance, and operating costs.
- Oversee inventory control, production planning, and resource allocation.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities while maintaining cost-effective operations.
Customer Focus
- Ensure operational processes support exceptional customer service and on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and improve service levels.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven success managing plant operations, production teams, and operational performance.
- Strong understanding of production planning, inventory management, maintenance, quality systems, and cost control.
- Demonstrated ability to improve safety, productivity, quality, and overall plant performance.
- Experience using KPIs and operational data to drive decision-making.
Leadership Skills
- Strong team-building and coaching abilities.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Results-driven mindset with a focus on accountability and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or related certifications are preferred.
