Company overview
At Poparide, we want to create a world where resources are shared to help preserve our planet in generations to come. We’ve built a city-to-city carpooling platform that helps fill empty seats in cars and makes travel more social, affordable and sustainable for everyone.
We’re a close knit team that values transparency, curiosity, collaboration, and intentionality. As we grow, we’re focused on making the product experience more polished, performant, and accessible for the members who rely on us every day.
About the role
We’re looking for a product-minded engineer to own and elevate our frontend experience across mobile and web. In this role, you’ll partner directly with our lean product and design team to build intuitive features while helping rebuild and modernize our client architecture. As a core contributor to our platform, you will champion the user experience and leverage modern frameworks and AI-augmented workflows to keep our member experience performant, polished, and built to scale.
What you will be doing
You’ll contribute across multiple areas of our platform, including:
Product Craft
- Championing the member experience on the frontend, ensuring high usability, accessibility, and intuitive UX across all features
- Partnering closely with our designers to ship polished, high-fidelity features from concept/prototypes to production
- Helping shape and evolve REST API designs to support smooth, low-latency frontend user journeys
- Contributing to and maintaining our design system (Storybook) to enforce consistent UX patterns and streamline feature development across platforms
Mobile
- Maintaining our production React Native app across iOS and Android
- Helping build and architect the next generation mobile client:
React Native/Expo app in TypeScript, sharing a common design system, API client, and codebase with our web client
Web
- Building our new web client from the ground up using React, Next.js, and TypeScript
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a product-minded frontend engineer with 3+ years of experience shipping production apps. You’ll connect design and engineering across web and mobile, using AI tools to modernize codebases while building clean, easy-to-use interfaces for our members.
Core Craft & Mindset
- Product & UX Ownership: Passionate about design fidelity, component reusability, and crafting intuitive, accessible user journeys across web and mobile.
- AI-Augmented Development: Builds and leverages AI agents, custom automations, and modern tools to eliminate repetitive tasks and accelerate codebase refactoring.
- Design Partnership: Partners closely with our designers to turn UI concepts and prototypes into polished, accessible interfaces.
- Backend Collaboration: Works closely with backend engineers on API design to support fast, responsive user journeys.
Platform Technical Requirements
3+ years of production frontend experience, spanning mobile and web:
- Mobile: High-quality interfaces with React Native, including Expo, expo-router, and EAS, with strongly typed TypeScript code and up-to-date state management (React Query, Zustand, or Context)
- Web:
Next.js (server rendering, routing, bundling, performance optimizations), TypeScript, and solid HTML5/CSS3 fundamentals
- Cross-Platform Architecture: Experience maintaining shared design systems (Storybook), monorepo tooling (Turborepo), and cross-platform component libraries.
- Testing: Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, React Native Testing Library, Playwright, Maestro).
- Release & Rollout: Strong experience with modern CI/CD pipelines (Bitrise, EAS).
- Experimentation & Analytics: Experience with feature flagging or experimentation tools (LaunchDarkly/Optimizely) and Firebase (Remote Config).
Nice to have
- Experience migrating legacy codebases into modern React/Expo stacks.
- Proficiency with design tools such as Figma for rapid wire framing and design collaboration.
- Openness to broader full-stack contributions over time (Python, Django)
Compensation & location
- Full-time, remote role with regular coworking in Kitchener–Waterloo, Ontario
- Compensation range of $115,000 to $140,000
- Equity through the Employee Stock Options Plan (ESOP)
- Access to our company benefits plan from day 1
- 20 paid holiday days per year
- 10 wellness days per year
