About Major Oak

Major Oak is a technology and product advisory firm. We partner with clients on IT strategy, product and software delivery, data platforms, and AI implementation. We're a small team that likes to stay close to the work, and we're looking for people who feel the same way.

The Role

We're hiring a Product Manager to lead data and reporting initiatives for a leading private equity firm. You'll work with stakeholders to understand what they need, set the roadmap, and guide a small team of developers through delivery.

This role blends product management, project management, and business analysis. You'll spend some of your time on strategy and prioritization with senior stakeholders, and some of it close to the day-to-day work with your team. You won't be the primary developer, but you know Power BI and data well enough to jump in, build, or help troubleshoot when it moves things forward.

This is a remote role.

What You'll Do

- Work with investment, operations, and finance stakeholders to understand their needs and turn them into clear requirements
- Own the roadmap for your initiatives and help prioritize across competing requests
- Lead a small team of developers, keeping work organized, unblocked, and on track
- Run day-to-day delivery in tools like Jira or Azure DevOps: sprint planning, backlog management, risk tracking, and keeping stakeholders informed

- Pitch in on Power BI reports when needed, whether that's prototyping an idea or helping get something over the line
- Use SQL and your understanding of data models to help the team investigate issues and validate results
- Partner with data engineering and understand the Databricks platform well enough to have informed conversations about scope and approach
- Explore ways AI can improve reporting, analysis, and how the team works

What You Bring

- Experience across product management, project management, and business analysis, ideally on data or BI initiatives
- A strong track record managing development teams day to day
- Excellent command of project management tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar
- Working knowledge of Power BI and comfort building reports yourself when needed
- Working SQL skills and a solid conceptual understanding of data modeling. You won't be designing the models, but you can read them and help debug
- Familiarity with up-to-date data concepts like medallion architecture, data pipelines, and lakehouse platforms
- Comfort working independently and managing multiple stakeholders
- Genuine interest in AI and where it's taking data and analytics

Nice to Have

- Experience with Databricks
- Background in private equity, investment banking, asset management, or financial services
