Project Estimating Lead

Location: Calgary, AB — Hybrid, 4 days per week onsite

Opportunity: Contract position with strong potential for permanent conversion

One of our clients is looking for an experienced Project Estimating Lead to provide estimating expertise across a portfolio of major capital projects.

This is a senior, hands-on role responsible for developing, reviewing and validating project cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle — from early project development and business case planning through detailed engineering and execution.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and validation of capital cost estimates at various stages of project development and execution.
- Establish estimating approaches, methodologies, assumptions and execution plans appropriate to the maturity and complexity of each project.
- Develop comprehensive estimates incorporating engineering, equipment, materials, fabrication, construction labour, subcontractors, indirect costs, owner costs, escalation and contingency.
- Review engineering deliverables and project scope documentation to determine quantities, labour requirements and cost impacts.
- Perform and validate quantity take-offs, contractor estimates and supporting calculations.
- Prepare explicit estimate documentation outlining the basis of estimate, key assumptions, exclusions, risks and supporting information.
- Provide estimating oversight and quality assurance across multiple projects while supporting and mentoring other estimating resources.
- Lead cost analysis and benchmarking,



using historical project information and industry data to validate estimates, identify major cost drivers and uncover opportunities for improved capital efficiency.
- Monitor factors such as labour rates, productivity, commodity pricing and contractor costs to understand potential impacts on project estimates.
- Support risk and contingency analysis by identifying estimating uncertainty, execution risks and market impacts and incorporating them appropriately into project estimates.
- Participate in value engineering, constructability reviews and other initiatives focused on improving project cost and execution outcomes.
- Review contractor, vendor and subcontractor pricing for completeness and reasonableness and support bid evaluations and procurement decisions.
- Provide estimating support for business cases, capital approvals, forecasting and project planning, updating estimates as scope and engineering definition evolve.
- Present estimate findings, key assumptions, risks and recommendations to project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Help improve estimating standards, procedures, templates and tools while promoting consistent practices across the organization.
- Apply recognized industry estimating practices, including relevant AACE principles and methodologies.

What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of project estimating experience
- At least 5 years of experience leading or owning estimates for significant capital projects.
- Strong background within energy, midstream, oil & gas, utilities, petrochemical or similar industrial environments.

Pay: $100.00-$120.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
