About the Role
North Valley Gymnastics is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and community-minded Recreational Coordinator to join our team.
The Recreational Coordinator plays a key role in the planning, organization, development, and day-to-day delivery of our recreational gymnastics' programs. This position will help create high-quality programming, support and develop recreational coaches, oversee scheduling and registration, and ensure athletes and families have a positive experience at NVGS.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and leader who is passionate about working with children and developing both athletes and coaches. A key focus of this role is empowering recreational coaches to build their skills and confidence, become more independent in class planning and management, and strengthen their knowledge of skill progressions and safe coaching practices.
This role will also focus on the continued growth of NVGS's recreational programs through creative programming, community outreach, member engagement, and identifying opportunities to attract and retain new athletes and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and support recreational gymnastics programs, classes, camps, and special events.
- Oversee the ongoing development and delivery of NVGS recreational programs.
- Develop engaging programming that promotes physical literacy, skill development, confidence, participation, and fun.
- Empower recreational coaches to develop their skills, independence, and confidence in class planning, class management, and gymnastics skill progressions.
- Create seasonal recreational schedules in collaboration with management and monitor registration numbers and class capacity.
- Lead and/or supervise recreational classes and programs as required.
- Create and maintain lesson plans, skill progressions, and programming resources for recreational classes.
- Recruit, train, schedule, mentor, and support recreational coaching staff as required.
- Provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and development opportunities for coaches to maintain consistent, high-quality programming.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, safe, and respectful environment for all athletes, families, coaches, and staff.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with athletes, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Respond professionally to participant and parent questions or concerns and assist with resolving issues.
- Monitor program participation, registration trends, and member feedback to identify opportunities to improve or expand recreational programming.
- Develop and support community outreach initiatives and identify creative opportunities to attract new members and increase participation in NVGS programs.
- Assist with promoting recreational programs through community outreach, social media, newsletters, events, and other communications.
- Maintain accurate program records, attendance information, schedules, and reports.
- Ensure recreational programs and facilities meet NVGS health, safety, coaching, and organizational standards.
- Support recreational program budgeting, purchasing, and inventory management for supplies and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with management and other program leads to support the overall operations, growth, and goals of NVGS.
- Report to the Head Coach and Operations Manager and work collaboratively with administration and other leadership.
- Work within NVGS programming standards and direction, with the Head Coach providing overall oversight and final approval of programming to maintain club-wide expectations, quality, and consistency.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Previous recreational gymnastics coaching and program development experience is required.
- Previous gymnastics coaching and leadership experience is required.
- Previous experience in recreation, community programming, education, childcare, fitness, or a related field is an asset.
- NCCP Gymnastics Foundations certification is required.
- NCCP Trampoline training/certification is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, support, and develop coaching staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a leadership team while also working independently and taking initiative.
- Creative, energetic, and enthusiastic approach to program development and community engagement.
- Strong understanding of recreational gymnastics programming, class management, and athlete skill progression.
- Comfortable working with children and individuals of diverse ages, backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check as required.
- Valid driver's licence may be required depending on program responsibilities.
