About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse in Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) is responsible for meeting the critical care needs of the patient and families following cardiovascular surgery.
The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span. The RN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care in the CVICU. The RN provides clinical leadership, particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings.
The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice to the critically ill patient. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes. The RN supports the development of students and colleagues by acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship.
The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing. The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses,
the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of Nova Scotia Health.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
- Completion of an approved Critical Care Course/Critical Care Certificate/CCNP and/or one year experience in critical care required
- Minimum of three (3) years' nursing experience preferred
- Previous Cardiovascular Intensive Care experience preferred
- BLS (HCP) certification
- Registered Nurses will carry arrest pager
- Robust communication, interpersonal and assessment skills coupled with sharp problem solving and decision-making skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
- Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits
$40.55 - $49.99 hourly
$51.74 hourly with 25 years of nursing experience
