Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required. CNA Perioperative Nursing Certification preferred. Successful completion of the AORN Periop 101 online course or equivalent Operating Room training/experience is preferred.

Applicants without previous operating room training/experience must successfully complete the AORN Periop 101 online course* within three months of the date of employment. The WRHA Surgery Program offers basic orientation through the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Periop 101 Didactic course to successful applicants with no previous perioperative experience. This is an online, evidence-based, accredited course for current operating room nurses to learn the basic, core principles of practice.

The successful candidate may be required to purchase the required textbook and reading material for this orientation course. Successful completion of the course within three months of their start date (prior to the end of their probationary or trial period) is a requirement. Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).

Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.

Personal Health Information

Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.

Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team. Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledge in Aboriginal customs, traditions and values. Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.

Ability to perform independently and as a member of the healthcare team. Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows and Word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
