Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

Glenridge Animal Hospital is looking for a skilled, compassionate and dependable Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our growing team.
We are a busy veterinary hospital in St. Catharines providing general practice, surgical, diagnostic and referral services. Our hospital is built around teamwork, excellent patient care and creating an environment where clients, pets and staff are part of the family.
About the Role
As an RVT at Glenridge Animal Hospital, you will play an important role in providing high-quality patient care while working closely with our veterinarians and broader hospital team.
We are looking for an RVT who enjoys being actively involved in patient care and wants the prospect to use and continue developing their technical skills.
Our hospital provides exposure to a broad range of veterinary medicine, including preventative and general practice care, surgery, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, hospitalization and referral medicine.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently within their scope of practice while also understanding that excellent veterinary medicine is a team effort. Depending on the needs of the hospital, you may move between appointments, treatments, procedures, surgery, diagnostics and hospitalized patient care throughout your day.

Clinical & Patient Care Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include
- Providing compassionate nursing care to hospitalized, surgical and recovering patients
- Performing patient assessments and monitoring patients throughout their hospital stay
- Safely handling and restraining dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Collecting blood, urine and other diagnostic samples
- Placing and maintaining IV catheters
- Administering medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Preparing and administering IV fluids
- Performing venipuncture and blood collection
- Running in-house laboratory testing and preparing samples for external laboratories
- Assisting with radiographs and diagnostic imaging
- Preparing patients for surgical and dental procedures
- Inducing and monitoring anesthesia within the RVT's scope of practice and hospital protocols
- Monitoring patients throughout anesthetic procedures and recovery
- Maintaining accurate anesthetic and patient-monitoring records
- Assisting veterinarians during surgical and medical procedures
- Performing dental prophylaxis and assisting with dental procedures
- Providing appropriate pain-management and recovery monitoring
- Maintaining accurate patient medical records
- Preparing treatment areas, surgical suites and equipment
- Cleaning, sterilizing and maintaining surgical and medical instruments
- Maintaining appropriate infection-control and hospital-cleanliness standards
- Assisting with emergency and urgent-care patients
- Communicating patient updates and concerns promptly to the veterinarian
- Supporting efficient patient flow throughout the hospital
Client Care & Communication Our RVTs are also an important part of the client experience.
Responsibilities may include
- Communicating professionally and compassionately with clients
- Reviewing veterinarian-approved treatment plans and home-care instructions
- Providing client education regarding preventative care, medications, nutrition and ongoing patient care within the RVT's scope of practice
- Conducting technician appointments where appropriate
- Assisting clients with questions regarding their pet's treatment and recovery
- Providing discharge instructions following procedures and hospitalization
- Communicating effectively between clients, veterinarians and other members of the hospital team
- Supporting clients during difficult or emotional situations
- Maintaining client confidentiality and professional standards
Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate:
- Is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in Ontario, or is eligible to become registered
- Is passionate about providing excellent patient care
- Has strong technical and clinical skills
- Is confident with patient handling and restraint
- Is comfortable with venipuncture, catheter placement and laboratory procedures
- Has experience with or an interest in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
- Communicates clearly and professionally with both clients and colleagues
- Is compassionate when working with clients who may be worried, frustrated or emotional
- Is dependable, punctual and takes pride in their work
- Has strong attention to detail
- Understands the importance of accurate medical records
- Can remain calm and focused in a busy veterinary environment
- Is organized and able to manage multiple priorities
- Works well independently while also being a strong team member
- Is comfortable asking questions and communicating concerns
- Is interested in continuing to learn and develop professionally
- Is willing to help throughout the hospital when needed
Experience in general practice, surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, emergency care or referral medicine is an asset; however, we also welcome applications from newer RVTs and recent graduates who are looking for an opportunity to develop their skills.

Physical Requirements
Veterinary medicine is an active, hands-on profession. Candidates must be comfortable:
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Bending, kneeling and performing repetitive tasks
- Safely handling and assisting with animals of varying sizes
- Working around animal waste, bodily fluids, cleaning products, noise and occasional unpleasant odours
- Working safely with animals that may be frightened, stressed, painful or reactive
- Assisting with lifting and positioning patients when appropriate and with assistance when required
- Moving between appointments, treatment, surgery and other areas of the hospital throughout the day
