About the Role

Captivated Construction is looking for an experienced carpenter to join our renovation team in the Halifax area. You'll be our go-to person for skilled carpentry on residential renovations, from structural repairs and reframing to finish work. You'll report to the Site Foreman and work independently, reading plans, solving problems as they come up, and delivering clean, high-quality work in our clients' homes.

Renovation is a different game than new builds. Walls aren't square, what's behind the drywall is a surprise, and homeowners are often living in the space. If you like figuring things out and take pride in doing the job right, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

- Renovation carpentry, including reframing, structural repairs, wall removals and openings, headers, stairs, window and door installs, and finish work
- Assess existing structures, deal with rot, out-of-square framing, and hidden problems, and recommend solutions
- Match new work to existing materials, trim, and finishes
- Install trim, doors, cabinets, flooring transitions, and other interior finishes to a high standard
- Build and repair decks, porches, and exterior components
- Read and work from drawings, sketches, and scopes of work
- Work carefully in occupied homes: protect floors and finishes, control dust, and keep the site clean at the end of each day




- Communicate professionally with homeowners when needed, and bring questions or change requests to the Foreman
- Coordinate with the Foreman and Project Coordinator to keep jobs on schedule
- Mentor junior carpenters and labourers when needed
- Report material needs, tool issues, and site concerns promptly
- Follow all site safety procedures without shortcuts

What We're Looking For

- Red Seal or Journeyperson Carpenter preferred, or 3+ years of verifiable residential carpentry experience (renovation experience a robust asset)
- Solid understanding of framing, building codes, and wood construction
- Ability to troubleshoot older homes and work with minimal supervision
- Strong finish carpentry skills and an eye for detail
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation
- Able to lift 50+ lbs, work from ladders and scaffolding, and work outdoors in all conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and professional on site and around clients
