The base salary will be $67,680 - $96,590 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About Us
The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).
The School of Physical Therapy develops and promotes excellence, leadership, and innovation in physical therapy research, education and clinical practice, with an immediate focus on harnessing and growing our strengths in musculoskeletal health.
Responsibilities
The Registered Practical Nursing Association of Ontario (WeRPN) has partnered with the Ontario Ministries of Health and Long-Term Care to deliver the Bridging Educational Grant in Nursing (BEGIN) program since 2021. The BEGIN program is part of the Ontario Government’s commitment to recruit nurses to the long-term care (LTC) and home and community care (HCC) sectors. The Dr Denise Connelly Research Lab has received funding through WeRPN since 2022 to conduct research addressing recruitment and retention of BEGIN program recipients and new graduate nurses to work in the LTC and HCC sectors.
Working with Dr Connelly, the Research Scientist will be a key member of the research team to carry out and oversee a 3-year proposed program of original and independent research planned for 2026-2029.
Further to managing institutional ethics approval processes, leading analysis of research data, and drafting manuscript and presentation materials, the Research Scientist will be responsible to mentor junior high-quality research team members, recognize when new and innovative research approaches are needed to achieve desired research outcomes and develop them, draft new research initiatives to address workforce issues in these dynamic health care settings, be responsible to manage budgeted funds related to participant compensation and transcription services, and draft funding agency interim and final reports, as examples.
Qualifications
Education
- Masters Degree in a relevant discipline
- PhD in a relevant field preferred
- Licensed health care provider in related field
Experience:
- 3 years’ experience (including postdoctoral experience) in a healthcare related research environment
- Substantial work completed on postdoctoral research portfolio in a directly related field; a strong publication record including first author publications preferred
- Previous healthcare related experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise of scientific/research principles in healthcare
- Familiarity with project management methodologies
- In-depth knowledge of the regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic workplace
- In-depth knowledge of best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals
- In-depth knowledge of techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
- In-depth knowledge of methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Well-developed public speaking skills to engage individuals and audiences inside and outside the University
- Communication skills to convey information in a credible way to garner support
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is accurate and comprehensive
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Advanced skills in software and applications used to produce and analyze research outcomes
- A desire to grow and advance skills, which is demonstrated by attending conferences, workshops and other professional developmental opportunities to enhance performance
- Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
