Overview
The Security Clearance Specialist is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the security clearance process working collaboratively with the RCMP and City of Richmond. They are also responsible for preparing packages to be reviewed by the “E” Division Departmental Security Section.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for all aspects of coordinating the security clearance process, including understanding the various levels and their unique requirements.
- Provides comments and recommendations on security clearance files and provides written justifications
- Interprets and applies appropriate policies and procedures.
- Responds to internal and external inquiries.
- Reviews questionnaire answers, statements of personal history, and other related data prior to starting formal background checks
- Compiles all pertinent background information, such as credit bureau reports, local agency checks, criminal records, and traffic violations.
- Evaluates interview answers and investigates potentially adverse information.
- Drafts follow-up questions for cases where insufficient information was provided.
- Prepares reports and recommends whether security clearances should be granted, suspended, revoked, or denied.
- Documents, processes, and ensure the protection of sensitive information.
- Maintains and ensures compliance to all applicable security policies as outlined by RCMP policy
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of security policies, systems, and procedures
- Proficient ability in office software and task management solutions, particularly in MS Word and Excel.
- Practiced at gathering and reviewing background information.
- Broad knowledge of information verification techniques.
- Advanced ability to document processes, report findings, and protect sensitive information.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a relevant RCMP security clearance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Secondary School or Grade 12 equivalent supplemented by additional related education/courses in interviewing and investigation techniques from a recognized Canadian police training institute.
- A minimum of two years of related work experience in a policing environment is required.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
