About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our growing team. This position plays a key role in supporting a portfolio of client accounts while serving as a trusted partner to the Accounting Manager.
The role will start on a part-time basis (10-15 hours per week) with the expectation to move to full-time hours within 3-6 months.
ROLE DUTIES
Client Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities for a portfolio of client accounts
- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger through review and reconciliation
- Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Maintain complete, accurate, and organized financial records
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting working papers
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Review financial results and identify unusual variances
- Ensure reporting is completed accurately and on schedule
Payroll & Indirect Tax
- Process payroll including deductions and remittances
- Prepare,
review, and file HST returns
- Support compliance requirements and maintain records
Client Service & Collaboration
- Act as a primary contact for assigned clients
- Follow up regarding missing documentation and information requests
- Build strong client relationships
- Work closely with the Accounting Manager
Bookkeeper Supervision
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to a team of bookkeepers
- Review bookkeeping work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with client expectations
- Support training, coaching, and workflow coordination to help the team meet deadlines
- Escalate complex issues to the Accounting Manager and help maintain clear communication across the team
File Reviews & Process Improvement
- Conduct monthly reviews of client files
- Support audit requests and year-end working papers
- Assist with client onboarding across QuickBooks Online, Dext and Financial Cents
- Identify opportunities to improve processes
- Assist with special projects and cleanup work
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience
- Experience managing multiple clients or entities simultaneously
- Robust understanding of bookkeeping and accounting processes
- Experience preparing financial statements, payroll and HST filings
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent communication and client service skills
- Accounting diploma, bookkeeping certification, or related education is an asset
