Laurentis is seeking a results-driven, ambitious, and strategic engineering professional to join our team in the role ofSenior Electrical Design Engineer.LEP’s Operational strategy aims to pursue innovative commercial growth opportunities by providing medical isotopes and radio pharmaceuticals, nuclear sustainability solutions, inspections, engineering services, ageing management, refurbishment, nuclear safety analysis and other services to the low carbon energy industry. The successful candidate will utilize their technical engineering skills and experience for assessing, developing and designing technical solutions in support of LEPs many engineering and design projects.
Responsible for electrical design development, including drawings, calculations and analyses through various project phase from front end engineering design (FEED), Conceptual, Preliminary, and Detailed, and Issued for Construction design phases. Develop, review, update, and modify design plans and work schedules. Liaise with clients, suppliers and other engineers to ensure projects are completed to specifications.
Provide technical oversight of suppliers including engineering service providers and equipment suppliers, review and accept supplier-provided technical documentation. Work independently with minimal supervision and mentor junior engineers and technicians. Ability to lead projects internally and externally and be responsible for project performances, including satisfied clients and profitable projects.
Compliance to and improving existing engineering processes. Analyze existing processes and lead improvement initiatives.
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Certification & Security Clearance Able to obtain and maintain a valid security clearance. Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering design experience, preferably with Consulting or Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects in nuclear or heavy industrial/commercial industry. Proven expertise in Electrical system design and studies such as power distribution system design, load flow studies, short circuit studies, voltage drop study (motor starting study), transformer energization, arc flash studies, equipment and cable protection design, protection and coordination studies.
Experience preparing system design requirements and technical specifications and be knowledgeable about applicable regulatory documents, codes and standards. Good working knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical safety code preferred. Skilled in developing single-line drawings, detailed wiring diagrams, electrical floor plan, riser diagram, cable schedules, panel schedules, installation details, load calculations, cable tray sizing/fill calculations, protective relay settings, bill of materials, technical specifications and datasheets, construction and commissioning specifications.
Familiarity with ageing management studies for electrical components and performing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Proficiency in electrical power system engineering software (ETAP etc.) and CAD tools (AutoCAD etc.). Proficiency with Engineering Change Control (ECC) process at nuclear power stations preferred.
Experience witnessing factory acceptance tests and supporting commissioning activities. Previous experience in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, or medical,
and/or in heavy industrial such mining, oil and gas, with direct interaction across departments, vendors, clients, and stakeholders. Project & Proposal Management Experience with preparing detailed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and effort estimates for internal and external projects. adept at building and maintaining productive relationships.
