Citi's Banking Technology team is looking for a Senior Full Stack Java Developer to play a central role in a global digital transformation programme that is reshaping how institutional banking products are built and delivered. Sitting within Citi's Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory business — part of the Institutional Clients Group spanning more than 100 countries — you will design and build high-impact software that directly solves complex challenges for bankers and institutional clients. This is a hands‑on engineering role with real influence over architecture, standards, and the technical direction of the team.
Design, build, and deliver full stack product features end-to-end using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and REST APIs, taking ownership of quality from first commit to production. Develop and optimise complex database logic across MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL — including stored procedures, indexing strategies, query tuning, and execution plan analysis. Lead code and design reviews to uphold technical standards and continuously raise the quality bar across the codebase.
Contribute to both high-level and low-level system design, producing artefacts such as sequence diagrams and class diagrams to support clear technical communication. Collaborate with global engineering teams to evaluate technical approaches and deliver the most effective solutions for clients and internal stakeholders. Mentor and coach junior engineers, sharing expertise and helping build a high-performing, technically capable team. 6+ years of hands‑on software development experience, with deep expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and REST API design. ~ Advanced proficiency in relational database technologies — MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL — covering schema design, query optimisation, stored procedures, indexing, and performance tuning. ~ Solid understanding of object‑oriented design principles, producing modular,
clean, and testable code across complex systems. ~ Practical experience with Git‑based source control workflows and project tracking tools such as Jira within collaborative engineering teams. ~ Grounding in systems analysis, architecture fundamentals, unit testing, and full software development lifecycle practices. ~ Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical decisions clearly to both engineering teams and non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience working within Agile or Scrum delivery frameworks, contributing effectively to sprint‑based development cycles. Demonstrated technology leadership in a previous role, with experience influencing technical standards or guiding delivery across a team. Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility alongside solid team collaboration.
Continuous learning and development, with access to training, mentorship, and opportunities to deepen both technical and leadership skills. Clear pathways for career progression within a technology organisation that values engineering craft and rewards performance. Financial wellbeing support, including a competitive compensation package and access to Citi's broader employee benefits programme.
Wellbeing and work‑life balance support through programmes designed to help you perform at your best inside and outside of work.
