The Engineering Customer Response Team (ECRT) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to provide world-class technical support to global enterprise customers for the Android Operating System, specifically focusing on data capture, contactless technologies, and secure elements. The ideal candidate possesses deep architectural knowledge of Android AOSP and exceptional system-level debugging skills.

In this Senior role, you will diagnose and resolve critical software issues within the NFC stack and RFID hardware abstraction layers, collaborate across hardware/firmware teams, and interface directly with Zebra customers.

Additionally, you will leverage and develop custom AI-driven solutions to automate support workflows.

Resolve

Android framework and OS issues on Zebra Mobile Computing products in the software sustaining engineering team.

Execute expert-level problem-solving on complex Android system-level software issues, utilizing deep-dive log analysis and AOSP source code debugging.

Work extensively with the Android AOSP source code, specifically isolating and troubleshooting issues within the NFC stack, Host Card Emulation, Secure Elements, and custom RFID HALs.

Develop and integrate custom AI-driven solutions to automate diagnostics, streamline workflows, and continuously improve support efficiency.

Collaborate closely with customers to understand their specific data-capture use cases, providing timely and effective solutions.

Partner with SW engineering, hardware/firmware teams,



and product management to drive resolution of customer issues and contribute to product improvements.

Create technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and training materials.

Mentor and assist other support engineers, sharing data-capture expertise and fostering technical excellence.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline. 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience, with significant experience in a customer-facing or support role.

Exceptional hands-on experience navigating, modifying, and debugging the Android AOSP source code.

Proficiency in applied AI, with the ability to build and integrate AI-based tools for workflow automation and continuous improvement.

Solid programming skills in Java, C, C++, and Python.

Should be good at multi-tasking and prioritizing issues based on urgency, customer, complexity, etc.

Core competency of triaging, debugging, and root-cause analysis in an Android environment, with an unrelenting drive to solve difficult technical puzzles.

Excellent customer-facing communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences (from developers to management to end customers).

Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to work effectively across organizational units.

Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, Gerrit) and CI/CD pipelines.





In-depth understanding of Core Java, C, C++, and OOP concepts.

Experience in the development of LINUX Device drivers will be an added advantage.
