The Exploits Valley SPCA is looking for a reliable, personable and compassionate individual to join our shelter team in a temporary position, with the potential to become permanent.
While caring for animals is a big part of the job, this is also a very people-focused position. Our ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working with animals while also communicating professionally with adopters, visitors and members of the public.
Responsibilities include daily animal care and cleaning, assisting with animal intake and adoptions, answering phones and speaking with the public, using our computer system to process adoption applications and maintain records, and helping with animal transport when required.
We’re looking for someone who: Is friendly, professional and confident dealing with the public.
Is comfortable caring for cats and dogs and understands that shelter care includes cleaning, feeding and sometimes messy or physically demanding work. Has good computer and communication skills. Is dependable, organized and able to work independently. Has a valid driver’s licence and is comfortable assisting with animal transport. Is 19 years of age or older.
Hours will vary and may include mornings, weekends and occasional call-in shifts. Flexibility is important.
Previous animal-care experience is an asset, but finding someone who is dependable, compassionate, qualified and genuinely good with both animals and people is most important.
