Oak Ridge Building Solutions Inc. is seeking a skilled Sprinkler Estimator / Designer to join our growing fire protection team.

This position combines estimating, sprinkler system design and project support for new installations, retrofits, upgrades and repairs. Based at our Oshawa office, you will work closely with project managers, sprinkler field crews, suppliers, consultants and clients to prepare accurate proposals and practical installation drawings.

Our projects include high-rise residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, retirement and long-term care properties.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating

- Review drawings, specifications, tender documents and site conditions to determine project requirements.
- Complete material takeoffs and prepare detailed labour, material, equipment and subcontractor estimates.
- Obtain supplier quotations and assess pricing, product availability and lead times.
- Prepare proposals outlining scope, exclusions, assumptions and pricing.
- Attend site visits and tender walkthroughs.
- Identify scope gaps, installation challenges and opportunities to improve project value.
- Prepare quotations for repairs, deficiencies, extras and change orders.

Design

- Develop sprinkler system layouts, shop drawings, installation details and as-built drawings.
- Complete hydraulic calculations and review water supply information.
- Prepare material lists, fabrication information and technical submissions.
- Coordinate sprinkler layouts with architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Apply relevant NFPA standards, applicable codes and project specifications.




- Work with engineers, consultants and reviewing authorities to address comments and support required approvals.
- Revise drawings to reflect site conditions and approved changes.

Project Support

- Prepare clear handover packages for project managers and field supervisors.
- Respond to installation questions and assist with technical coordination.
- Support purchasing, material planning and project scheduling.
- Maintain organized estimates, drawing revisions and project records.
- Review actual project costs against estimates to improve future pricing.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in fire sprinkler estimating and design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and sprinkler design or hydraulic calculation software such as HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 13; familiarity with NFPA 14, NFPA 20 and NFPA 25 is an asset.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and inspection reports.
- Understanding of sprinkler components, installation methods and labour requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work with office and field teams.




- Valid driver’s licence and ability to attend project sites.

Preferred Assets

- Education in fire protection engineering technology or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with occupied buildings, high-rise retrofits and sprinkler system replacements.
- Sprinkler fitter experience or a 427A Certificate of Qualification.
- Experience with Revit, BIM coordination or digital estimating tools.
- Familiarity with BuildOps and Inspect Point.
