Position Overview: Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Transfer Station Attendant is responsible for providing general labour and operational support at the Strathmore Transfer Station. This role involves monitoring the site, assisting residents, maintaining site cleanliness and safety, recording facility use, and ensuring materials are properly separated and disposed of in accordance with site requirements, environmental regulations, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Remain on site whenever the Transfer Station is open to the public and ensure gates are closed and secured when the site is not in operation.
- Maintain regular communication with the Service Coordinator regarding bin volumes and site needs.
- Monitor,
record, and inspect materials being disposed of by members of the public.
- Ensure refuse brought to the site is properly separated and placed in designated areas.
- Ensure hazardous or prohibited materials are not deposited at the site in accordance with permit requirements.
- Collect and dispose of windblown litter and maintain general site cleanliness.
- Monitor the Transfer Station in accordance with Alberta Environmental Protection requirements, Provincial Health Regulations, and applicable Codes of Practice.
- Monitor site conditions and report concerns such as snow, ice, vandalism, hazards, or other maintenance issues to the direct supervisor.
- Record public use of the facility and complete required facility use forms and documentation.
- Monitor roadways, fencing, buildings, and other areas surrounding the Transfer Station for safety and maintenance concerns.
- Monitor the site for potential fire hazards and report any concerns immediately.
- Report safety concerns, hazards, and policy or procedural infractions to the direct supervisor.
- Make recommendations to the direct supervisor regarding site operations and improvements.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and applicable health and safety requirements.
- Perform other general labour and operational duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a transfer station, landfill, waste management, general labour, customer service, or a related environment is an asset.
- Ability to interact professionally with residents, co-workers, supervisors, and management.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic record-keeping and documentation skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize and report safety, environmental, and site-related concerns.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dry, dusty, and wet conditions.
- Ability to work alone and remain attentive and responsible throughout the shift.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Able to work weekends, Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
