Full-Time Are you ready to lead with vision, care deeply for children and youth, and inspire a team to transform lives in the heart of our community? The Supervisor, Children & Youth Program, oversees all aspects of the Eastsiders’ program, which involves caring pastorally for the children and youth who come to the Centre and who live in the Centre. You are responsible to provide vision and leadership to the staff and support them and their professional development.

As well, you oversee all seasonal projects: camp partnership program and Christmas Hamper program. As UGM’s afterschool licensing point of contact, you coordinate, implement and ensure UGM’s compliance with our current Eastsiders’ Afterschool Licensed Program. You contribute actively to all current and future children and youth programming, and build connections with other DTES Children’s and Youth providers.

You are an important leader of the outreach team and provide on-call supervision in a rotation with other supervisors. As a spiritual leader, you will be a role model for your team, and strive to enhance client care and services that are consistent with Union Gospel Mission’s Vision and Core values. This is a permanent , full time (37.5hours per week) position .

The starting range for this position is $31.92 to $34.88 per hour. Demonstrating the love of Christ, UGM feeds hope and changes lives through a faith-based continuum of care. our extensive benefits plan is fully employer-paid and includes extended dental and medical, as well as $4,500 per year in pooled paramedical expenses. With the Manager and the Supervisor, Child Care & Youth, develop and implement a vision for the Eastsiders and Afterschool program.

Provide sub-branch direction, oversight of operations, and collaborative problem-solving, handling complex and difficult issues with staff or guests to ensure timely follow-up. Provide spiritual leadership by regularly participating in prayer times as well as offering pastoral care, prayer and spiritual direction to staff and guests and staff. Hire, orient, train, supervise, and conduct annual performance reviews of direct reports.

Participate regularly in children and youth programming to observe and support staff as needed. Network and collaborate with internal and external partners. Plan and participate in staff meetings, training and development opportunities.

Administrative

Duties – 25% Work with the Manager and the Supervisor, Child Care & Youth, to support branch staff via appropriate training opportunities.

Oversee and assist with seasonal programming: camp sponsorship and Christmas hamper programs. Create and update client support material together with Creative Services where required.



Provide back-up coverage for our current afterschool programming and other outreach or reception needs Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.

Participate in rotation with the other WFO Supervisors for on-call supervision. Related post-secondary education combined with several years of related experience required (youth-focused degree is an asset). ~Excellent knowledge of BC Family Child Care Association, and child care and licensing.

Responsible Adult

Course is an asset. ~ Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word and Outlook). ~ Positive English skills (verbal, reading and writing). ~ Experience in working in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse community experience would be an asset. ~ Experience dealing with complex matters, including one’s own life experience that encouraged your own personal work of resilience ~ Valid Class 5 drivers’ license required; Strong administrative skills. ~ Work is generally performed indoors, with up to 10% of the time spent outdoors in all types of weather. Employee is required to look at a computer screen and use a keyboard for up to 90% of the time. Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water.

The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position. This position works a Tuesday to Saturday schedule, including evening shifts and day shifts. Overtime and work on statutory holidays may be required.
