Temporary Heavy Duty Mechanic Public Works Outside Worker CUPE Local 2709 The Township of Spallumcheen is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to support the Township’s Public Works team on a temporary basis for a term commencing September 3, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until December 31, 2026 or until the incumbent employee returns from leave, whichever occurs first. Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and servicing of municipal vehicles and heavy equipment. The successful candidate will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Township's fleet through preventative maintenance, repairs, welding and fabrication work, and accurate maintenance record keeping.
This position is covered by the current Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement, Local 2709. Plus 16% in lieu of benefits , statutory holiday pay, and vacation pay (as per CUPE Local 2709 Article 17) BC Certified Journeyman Certificate as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic.
Valid
Class 3 BC Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement. Class C Welding Ticket. Level 1 First Aid Certificate. WHMIS Training.

Meters and Meter Pits were installed throughout the Township managed Local Area Service for Water.
Summer/Fall 2024 There are approximately 30 km Gravel roads throughout the community.
