Role Summary:
The Peak Planner is responsible for supporting terminal leadership in maintaining performance, communication and operational management of the transportation terminal. This role partners with terminal management to ensure that all freight, personnel, and facility operations meet safety, service, cost, and compliance expectations. The Planner will help a team of supervisors, drivers, and support staff while ensuring necessary communications with stake holders, customer satisfaction, and efficient execution of daily activities.

Key Accountabilities:
In this role, you will:
- Support daily terminal operations, including dispatch, dock activities, inbound/outbound freight movement,
and route planning to ensure timely and accurate service.
- Assist with planning and coordinating operational requirements during peak-volume periods, ensuring adequate staffing, equipment, and resources are aligned with anticipated freight volumes.
- Monitor freight movement throughout the terminal and proactively address delays, capacity constraints, missed connections, or operational bottlenecks.
- Work with terminal leadership to optimize the use of drivers, dock personnel, equipment, trailers, and available terminal capacity.
- Coordinate with dispatch and operations teams to support route execution, driver assignments, scheduling changes, and service requirements.
- Maintain and reinforce established safety programs, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements, and participate in audits and corrective actions.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal customers and stakeholders, resolving service issues and ensuring delivery standards are consistently met or exceeded.
- Maintain transparent and timely communication with supervisors, drivers, dock teams, customer service, and other stakeholders regarding freight status, operational changes, service risks, and priorities.
- Track and report operational KPIs, including on-time performance, cost per shipment, claims, productivity, service levels, and equipment utilization.
- Identify operational issues and work collaboratively with terminal leadership and internal teams to implement timely solutions and minimize service disruptions.
- Monitor daily freight volumes and operational capacity to identify potential staffing, equipment, or routing requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve terminal productivity, freight flow, service performance, cost efficiency, and operational processes.
- Provide day-to-day operational guidance and support to supervisors, drivers, and support staff to help ensure priorities and service expectations are understood.
- Monitor service exceptions, delayed freight, missed deliveries, and other operational concerns and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
- Maintain accurate operational records, reports, schedules, and documentation required to support terminal performance and decision-making.
- Partner with Customer Service, Linehaul, Dispatch, Fleet, Safety, and other internal departments to support seamless freight movement and customer service.
- Assist terminal leadership in responding to unexpected volume fluctuations, staffing shortages, equipment availability issues, weather disruptions, and other operational challenges.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Education & Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, dispatch, terminal operations, or a related environment preferred.
- Previous experience with freight planning, dispatch, routing, or LTL transportation operations is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of terminal operations, freight flow, inbound/outbound processes, and route planning.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or business is considered an asset
- Skills & Attributes:
- Ability to plan and prioritize freight, equipment, drivers, and operational resources based on daily business requirements.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with drivers, supervisors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly when responding to service disruptions, capacity constraints, or changing operational requirements.
- Ability to monitor operational performance and interpret KPIs, including on-time performance, productivity, claims, equipment utilization, and service levels.
- Robust attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate operational records and reporting.
- Working knowledge of transportation safety requirements, company policies, and operational procedures.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and transportation management or dispatch systems (TMS).
- Ability to work collaboratively across Operations, Dispatch, Fleet, Customer Service, Safety, and Linehaul functions.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, organized, and solutions-focused during high-volume or time-sensitive situations.
- Strong sense of urgency with a customer-service and results-oriented mindset.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing freight volumes, staffing requirements, equipment availability, and operational priorities.
