Truck Driver AssistantJob Overview

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Truck Driver Assistant to support our transportation and delivery operations. The successful candidate will assist truck drivers with the protected loading, unloading, handling, and securing of freight and will help ensure that deliveries are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.

The Truck Driver Assistant will work closely with drivers, warehouse personnel, and other team members and must be able to perform physically demanding duties while following established workplace and transportation safety procedures.

Responsibilities

- Assist truck drivers with the loading and unloading of goods, materials, and freight.
- Perform manual material handling, including hand-bombing and moving heavy or bulky items as required.
- Assist with arranging, distributing, and securing cargo to reduce the risk of shifting or damage during transportation.
- Inspect freight for visible damage, discrepancies, or improper packaging and report concerns to the driver or supervisor.
- Assist the driver with routine pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks, where appropriate.
- Help verify shipments against delivery documents, manifests, bills of lading, or other shipping records.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records relating to shipments, deliveries, pickups, and returned goods.
- Help ensure that freight is delivered to the appropriate location and handled in accordance with customer and company requirements.
- Assist with the safe use of material-handling equipment, where trained and authorized.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of trucks, loading areas, yards, and staging areas.
- Follow company health and safety policies, safe lifting practices, and established loading and unloading procedures.
- Communicate with drivers, dispatchers, warehouse personnel, customers, and supervisors regarding deliveries, delays, damaged goods,



or other operational issues.
- Assist with directing or guiding vehicles in yards, loading areas, or other locations when required.
- Perform other transportation, delivery, and general labour duties reasonably related to the position.

Qualifications and Skills

- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading of goods.
- Ability to safely handle freight and follow proper material-handling procedures.
- Good attention to detail when checking shipments, cargo, and delivery documentation.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and established workplace procedures.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and commitment to completing assigned deliveries and tasks on schedule.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of basic workplace and transportation safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a transportation or warehouse team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours depending on delivery schedules and operational requirements.
- Previous experience in transportation, warehousing, delivery, material handling, or general labour is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence is considered an asset where driving-related assistance forms part of the position.

Physical Requirements The position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. The employee must be capable of safely handling freight and performing repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.

Work Environment

Work may be performed in trucks, warehouses, loading docks, customer locations, yards, and outdoor environments. The employee must follow all applicable company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while performing assigned duties.

Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
