Canada’s literacy divide widens daily because so many people lack adequate support. Solving systemic literacy challenges is key to advancing social equity and prosperity across our country.

United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charity that was founded in 1899. Our mission is to provide local learning support programs that change lives.As part of the Alberta team, United for Literacy is seeking a Camp Coordinator to oversee Indigenous Summer Literacy Camps.Each summer, United for Literacy works in partnership with over 20 Indigenous and Métis communities throughout Alberta to deliver Summer Literacy Camps. These camps welcome children aged 5 – 12 to participate in their local community program at no cost to families.

The initiative aims to foster a lifelong love of reding, build learner confidence and prevent summer learning loss. The program is grounded in community collaboration, consultation, and respect for local knowledge and traditions.The Camp Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of the program, including building and maintaining community relationships, managing and supervising staff,



delivering training and support, visiting program sites and overseeing data collection and reporting. Additionally, the Camp Coordinator will lead efforts to expand the program year-round by developing and implementing after-school Reading Clubs and Circles.The successful candidate will work from a home office however travel to program sites across Alberta is required.1) Program performance and compliance (50%)Collaborate with community partners to develop strong camp delivery plans.Coordinate and implement Summer Literacy Camp logistics including travel, training, food, materials and shipping.Oversee recruitment and hiring of camp staff through community.

Provide ongoing support and communication to camp teams through community visits, follow-up calls and daily problem-solving.Ensure timely submission of camp data by collecting, compiling and submitting required reporting on a weekly basis during camp period.Provide general administrative support such as handling correspondence, mailing supplies, maintaining filing systems, and responding to requests in a timely manner.As an expansion of the camps program,



collaborate with community partners to create Reading Clubs and Circles during the school year. This includes hiring and training staff, assisting with program development and managing small budgets.Provide guidance and solutions tailored to specific needs and circumstances of each community.Deliver staff training that reflects program goals and learner needs.Directly supervise a small team of program support staff by providing leadership and day-to-day guidance during the summer.Support staff by problem solving depending on community needs and circumstances.Foster high performance through coaching, constructive feedback and adherence to organization values, policies and standards.3) Relationship management (20%)Build, manage and sustain strong community partnerships related to Summer Literacy Camps and after-school programs such as Reading Clubs.Serve as a liaison between community partners and management team to ensure collaboration and alignment of goals.Participate in meetings, in-person or virtual, with community partners to represent United for Literacy.Qualifications:Experience working with Indigenous communities and an understanding of issues and dynamics of working in rural and remote contexts.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Canva.Valid driver's license and comfortable driving long distances.A current Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen (or be willing to obtain it prior to the start of employment).Working Conditions:During the summer #
