Unregulated Care Provider – Job Posting – Unitarian House

Job Title: Unregulated Care Provider (UCP)

:

Position available: Casual/Part-time: Every Wednesday evening with the possibility to pick up shifts and possible vacation coverage in January and February.

Qualifications

1. Graduate of a Personal Support Worker program with past UCP training and experience, Internationally trained health care professional or Nursing student.
2. Empathy for and understanding of the needs of the elderly/dementia clients.
3. Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset.
4. Ability to relate to all levels of the residents and their families with a high degree of patience, tolerance and confidentiality.
5. Strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Proficient in providing personal care with appropriate techniques, professionalism, and attention to residents’ comfort, dignity, and safety.

Job Requirements
1. Current CPR and FIRST AID Certification.
2. Police Record Check including VSC, as per RHA.
3. TB Testing.
4. Up-to-date Immunization as per UH policy

Physical Demands
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
- Pulling/pushing/lifting to relocate carts, residents requiring support to transfer.




- Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen.
- Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system or alerts for emergency response purposes.
- Speaking/communicating to individuals with impairments and disabilities.
- Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care.
- Dexterity required/ability to use a keyboard, open pouches/blister packs, insert test strips into glucometers, etc.

Mental Effort · Continuous mental effort is required for provision of secure resident care services.

· High probability of work interruptions and distractions.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide medication and treatment administration based on standards and policies.
2. Provide direct resident care based on the individual care plan.
3. Escalate medical emergencies to the nurse/team.
4. Work closely with the other members of the team.
5. Maintain a safe environment for the residents and staff.
