Position Status: Full-Time Regular Lions Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant, North Vancouver Salary Range/ Wage Rate: $41.83 hourly plus 6.25% deferred compensation (2024 wage rates) Our Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II who will be part of a team of Wastewater Treatment Operators at the Lions Gate and North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant. Candidates must be experienced in wastewater treatment regulatory compliance as well as experienced in being compliant with WorkSafe BC regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency using various tools and computer applications common to the industry.
Candidates should have a combination of related education and hands-on experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. A municipal wastewater treatment plant operator level II certificate is required for the position with an expectation that the successful candidate be willing to progress towards EOCP operator Level III certification within the first year. Assists in the operation and monitoring of equipment throughout the plant.
Performs and assists in the maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, motors, valves, instruments, etc. Performs in a variety of process sampling operations and simple laboratory tests and interprets the results for productive plant operation. performs “housekeeping” and general maintenance work throughout the plant. Operates ancillary equipment such as trucks, small tractors, lawn mowers, pressure washers, etc.
Assists in the training of junior staff.
Maintains technical currency relative to wastewater treatment and related ancillary systems. Conducts tours and answers queries from the general public visiting the plant.
May act in the capacity of a senior Operator when required. Works in compliance with all District safety policies, procedures and WCB regulations. Demonstrated willingness and ability to undertake additional training relating to the duties of the position including progress towards WWTPO IV Certification.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively use computer applications related to the position and duties. Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
Sound knowledge of the occupational hazards, WCB regulations, safety policies and procedures applicable to the position. Willingness and ability to adapt to rotating shift work and/or be available for standby duty if required. C. driver’s license.
