About the Role
The Company is seeking a Tribunal Committee Vice-Chair to join its self-regulatory organization. The successful candidate will be part of a Tribunal Committee that is dedicated to addressing concerns about the conduct and competence of licensed professionals in the immigration and citizenship consulting sector.
The role of the Vice-Chair is pivotal in this process, as they will preside over hearing panels, conduct hearings, and draft decisions and reasons for the panel's decisions. This position requires a significant commitment of time, with an expectation of up to 3 days per month, and the ability to engage in both in-person and virtual proceedings.
The Vice-Chair will also be involved in case management, settlement conferences, and motion hearings,
with a strong emphasis on maintaining a fair and objective process that balances public protection with the rights of the professionals being adjudicated.
Applicants for the Vice-Chair position must have a robust background in adjudication and be bilingual, as the role involves working in both English and French. The Tribunal Committee is a key component of the organization's mandate, and the Vice-Chair will be instrumental in upholding the standards of the profession in the public interest.
The role is not only about making decisions but also about ensuring that the process is transparent, just, and in line with the ethical standards set by the organization. The Vice-Chair will be appointed for a term of 1 to 3 years, with the possibility of reappointment, and must be prepared to undergo a criminal background check as part of the selection process.
