About the Project The Government of Alberta's
Justice Information Management System (JIMS) 3.0
project is transforming the way court data is integrated, governed, and reported across the Justice organization.
The project will consolidate multiple standalone IBM Cognos Business Intelligence data marts into an integrated
Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)
and supporting data marts and views. The solution will integrate data currently sourced from the Justice Online Information Network (JOIN) and modernize the architecture supporting strategic, operational, and ad hoc court reporting.
The initiative will improve:
Data integration and architecture
Data governance and quality
Interactive and timely reporting
Historical data preservation
Reporting performance
Reusability and cost efficiency
About the Role We are seeking an experienced
Senior Data Architect
to support the JIMS 3.0 project and lead key data architecture, modelling, profiling, integration, and data warehouse activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with project stakeholders and technical teams to assess existing data marts, define future-state data architecture, develop data models and mapping specifications, support ETL development, and ensure the quality and integrity of Dimensions and Facts within the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Key Responsibilities
Define, document, and manage data architecture principles, strategies, standards, models, guidelines, and design practices.
Review and assess existing data marts and reporting architectures.
Perform detailed data profiling and analysis of source and target data structures.
Identify and define required
Dimensions and Facts
for the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Develop detailed data mapping and design specifications.
Support the development and testing of
ETL/ELT processes .
Develop and validate data models using enterprise data architecture and dimensional modelling principles.
Support staging and transformation of required data.
Update existing JOIN data models to accommodate new Fact attributes.
Perform quality assurance and testing of Dimensions, Facts, and data warehouse components.
Develop Power BI reports and visualizations to support data validation and testing.
Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reuse, sharing, and governance.
Develop transition plans to move current-state data toward the desired future-state architecture.
Provide architecture guidance and consulting to project teams and stakeholders.
Participate in data architecture and solution design reviews.
Ensure alignment with Government of Alberta enterprise architecture and IMT strategies.
Address data architecture scope extensions and provide recommendations.
Provide technical guidance, advice, and consultancy to initiatives aligning with enterprise data architecture.
Support minor fixes and enhancements to delivered data marts.
Document lessons learned and provide project close-out feedback.
Collaborate with enterprise architecture and technical teams as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience Education
Post-secondary degree or diploma in
Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Management , or a related discipline.
Completed structured training in
SQL or structured query languages .
Training related to
Cloud Computing
completed within the past 5–10 years.
Data Architecture & Modelling
5+ years of experience
defining data architecture and applying
Kimball/dimensional data modelling
principles.
5+ years of experience
using data modelling and architecture tools such as
SAP/Sybase Power Designer or equivalent.
Strong experience with enterprise data warehouse architecture, dimensional modelling, Facts, Dimensions, data mapping, and data integration.
Robust experience performing data profiling, source-to-target analysis, and data quality assessment.
Experience designing and supporting ETL/ELT processes.
Experience with data governance, data quality, metadata, and information management practices.
Experience developing or validating BI reporting solutions, preferably using
Power BI .
Public Sector Experience
2+ years of experience
working in or with public-sector environments.
Understanding of public-sector information management, privacy, security, and data governance requirements.
Justice / Court Data Experience – Asset The following experience is considered an asset:
3+ years of experience
working with
JOIN (Justice Online Information Network)
and/or
JIMS (Justice Information Management System) .
2+ years of experience
working in or with court environments and understanding court-related data, processes, and reporting.
Experience working with Justice-sector data marts, court case data, or related government information systems.
Security & Compliance
Willingness and eligibility to complete a
Criminal Records Check .
Willingness and eligibility to obtain an
Enhanced Security Clearance .
Candidate must be eligible to obtain higher-level security clearance, including
RCMP Top Secret , if required during the engagement.
Experience working with information management, cybersecurity policies, directives, and standards is an asset.
Communication & Collaboration
5+ years of experience
communicating complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with enterprise architecture, data, BI, project, and business teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

primarily remote within Canada . The successful candidate must be available to attend meetings and working sessions in
Edmonton, Alberta , when required.
Approximately
15% of the engagement may be onsite in Edmonton . Reasonable notice will be provided for onsite requirements.
Candidates must be able to work from within Canada.
Security Requirements The successful candidate will be required to:
Complete a Criminal Records Check.
Obtain an Enhanced Security Clearance for work with Alberta Justice.
Remain eligible to obtain additional security clearances, including RCMP Top Secret, should the project require it.
Complete mandatory Government of Alberta training, including privacy, access to information, cybersecurity, information management, and workplace conduct training.
