Lead strategic research initiatives at the University of Alberta in a hybrid role focusing on defence and sovereignty. This position combines industry engagement with research funding to create impactful projects. The Defence and Sovereignty Lead will drive applied research and industry collaboration at the Faculty of Engineering.
With a focus on securing research funding and building ecosystems, this role serves as a key interface between academia and defence enterprises. You'll work on high-priority projects aimed at enhancing regional economic impact and graduate training through industrial engagement. Key Responsibilities:
Scout and engage defence primes for R&D; prospects
Generate cooperative research proposals and secure funding
Execute ecosystem-building activities for grant compliance
Market specialized research facilities to industry partners
Align outreach efforts with internal leadership and stakeholders Requirements:
Bachelor’s in Engineering or related field required
Minimum 5+ years in business development or technical sales
In-depth knowledge of Canadian defence initiatives
Solid negotiation skills with C-level executives
Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally Utilize your skills in business development, technical sales, and partnership cultivation to drive research initiatives at the University of Alberta.
