Job Description Senior Stores Person – GSSTS Client: Department of National Defence (DND) Location: Garrison Petawawa, 285 Brindle Road, Building CS-117 Contract: October 5, 2026 – September 3, 2027 Hours: 37.5 hours/week | Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM Position: General Services – Stores Services (GSSTS) Senior Stores Person Security Clearance: Secret – Mandatory Position Overview The Department of National Defence (DND) is seeking an experienced Senior Stores Person to provide supply, logistics, warehousing, and inventory support within a Canadian Forces (CF) operational unit.
The successful candidate will support the Clothing Stores section and be responsible for the secure receipt, storage, control, maintenance, movement, and distribution of military materiel and equipment.
The role requires hands-on warehouse capabilities combined with clerical, inventory, documentation, and safety responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities Warehouse & Stores Operations Support the daily operations of the Clothing Stores section .
Receive, safeguard, store, maintain, issue, and distribute military materiel.
Maintain accurate control and accountability of military equipment and supplies.
Record and track stock movements and maintain appropriate inventory documentation.
Apply established storage methods and procedures to ensure materials are properly organized and protected.
Interpret stock descriptions, catalogues, and related stores documentation.
Pack, move, load, and unload materials as required.
Operate warehouse and stores equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Requirements Mandatory Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience providing supply, logistics, warehousing, inventory management, or stores support services .
Experience must have been gained within a Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) environment .
Valid Secret security clearance – Mandatory.
Experience working in a warehouse/stores environment involving the handling, movement, storage,
and distribution of materials.
Ability to work with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and applicable hand/power tools.
Ability to perform inventory and stock-control activities, including recording stock movements and maintaining stock records.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic required for stock records and inventory activities.
Ability to perform clerical and filing duties, including maintaining hard-copy archival files for audits and reference.
Ability to understand storage methods and interpret stock descriptions/catalogues.
Ability to safely pack, move, load, and unload materials.
Ability to operate warehouse/store equipment safely and effectively.
Ability to identify and report safety and security issues , including hazards and facility/equipment damage.
Material Handling Utilize various Material Handling Equipment (MHE) required for warehouse and stores activities.
Safely use applicable hand and power tools .
Follow established procedures for the safe handling, movement, storage, and distribution of military materiel.
Ensure equipment and tools used by the employee and work group are properly cared for.
Inventory & Documentation Maintain accurate inventory and stock records.
Perform basic arithmetic calculations associated with stock control and inventory records.
Maintain filing systems and clerical records.
Maintain hard-copy archival files for audit, compliance, and reference purposes.
Ensure stores documentation is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
Safety & Security Safeguard military materiel received, stored, maintained, and issued within the warehouse.
Identify and report safety/security concerns,
including workplace hazards and facility or equipment damage.
Follow applicable workplace, warehouse, security, and material-handling procedures.
Maintain a safe and organized working environment.
Office & Administrative Support Properly use and care for office supplies, furniture, equipment, and computers.
Perform administrative and clerical duties associated with stores operations.
Support the Supply Section with day-to-day operational requirements.
Work Setting & Physical Requirements This is a hands-on warehouse/stores position that may involve: Standing and walking for extended periods.
Moving, packing, loading, and unloading materials.
Working with warehouse/store equipment and MHE.
Working both indoors and outdoors.
Walking between buildings and performing extended outdoor work when required.
Protective footwear and appropriate workwear are required. PPE will be provided as needed.
Candidates must have suitable outdoor clothing for extended outdoor work or walking between buildings.
