Our client is a dynamic and growing organization in the real estate and construction industry, overseeing multiple large-scale development projects across Montréal. The company is strengthening its project accounting function to support this growth and is looking for a skilled professional who wants to contribute meaningfully within a collaborative and supportive finance workplace.
Your new role As Project Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities for several construction projects. Reporting directly to the Cost Controller, your responsibilities will include:
Project Accounting & Financial Tracking
- Coordinate all accounting operations for assigned construction projects
- Process transactions, progress billings, invoices, and related entries in the accounting system
- Prepare payment applications with project managers and manage the approval process
- Assist project managers with budget monitoring, variance analysis, and project financial reviews
- Plan and validate subcontractor payments based on cash flow, agreements, and project needs.
- Perform daily monitoring of project cash requirements.
- Project Close-Out
- Collect, validate, and file all closeout documentation (releases, CNESST/CCQ certificates, etc.)
- Verify change orders received against billable change notices
- Administrative & Corporate Support
- Assist with month-end closing activities
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations
- Maintain billing control lists and other financial tracking tools
- Communicate regularly with subcontractors, project managers, and internal stakeholders
What you'll need to succeed
- DEC in Accounting or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in project accounting, ideally in construction
- Strong proficiency in French; functional English
- Solid command of MS Office; familiarity with accounting or construction management software (Maestro or Procor an asset)
- Strong organizational skills, autonomy, attention to detail, and teamwork
