We are looking to fill a full time Fitness Operations Supervisor position. The Fitness Operations Supervisor supports the Calgary Winter Club’s fitness operations by providing day-to-day leadership of the Fitness Consultant team while fostering a protected, welcoming, and high-performing Fitness Centre environment. Reporting to the Fitness Manager, this role is responsible for consultant scheduling, onboarding, training, mentorship, and promoting operational excellence through consistent service standards that enhance the overall Member experience.
The Fitness Operations Supervisor oversees facility readiness, including operational standards and equipment maintenance coordination, ensuring the Fitness Centre is organized, functional, and prepared to meet Member needs. Working collaboratively with the Fitness Program Supervisor, this role supports seamless service delivery, departmental operations, and the overall success of the Fitness Department.
Key Accountabilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the fitness floor and operational functions of the Fitness Department.
- Champion and model the Club’s culture, values, and leadership standards, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing environment across all teams.
- Ensure departmental policies, procedures, and operational standards are consistently followed.
- Support the Fitness Manager in the implementation and execution of departmental goals and initiatives.
- Monitor daily operations and proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and service delivery.
- Serve as a visible leadership presence on the fitness floor and act as a role model for consultants on professionalism, engagement, and Member service.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining operational procedures and best practices.
Fitness Consultant Leadership & Development
- Provide direct leadership, mentorship, coaching, and support to the Fitness Consultant team.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and support Fitness Consultants in alignment with departmental standards set by the Fitness Manager.
- Conduct regular observations, performance discussions, and developmental coaching with Fitness Consultants.
- Ensure Fitness Consultants adhere to departmental standards, policies, and service expectations.
- Identify opportunities for staff development, continuing education, and leadership growth.
Departmental Collaboration & Program Support
- Work collaboratively with the Fitness Program Supervisor to ensure alignment between programming and operations.
- Support the operational day-to-day execution of programming initiatives, events, and special projects
- Collaborate in the development and maintenance of contingency plans and operational procedures for program disruptions, instructor absences, emergencies, injuries, and service interruptions.
- Execute established operational procedures related to programming support when required.
- Participate in regular planning meetings and contribute to departmental objectives and organizational initiatives.
Facility Readiness & Equipment Management
- Oversee the daily readiness and presentation of all fitness spaces, studios, and operational areas.
- Conduct regular inspections of fitness facilities to ensure cleanliness, organization, safety, and operational functionality.
- Conduct monthly health and safety facility walkthroughs with Fitness Manager and identify health and safety improvement opportunities.
- Monitor the condition and readiness of studio spaces, including sound systems, mirrors, doors, lighting, and other operational components.
- Coordinate fitness floor equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
- Liaise with third-party service providers and maintenance contractors to ensure timely resolution of operational issues.
- Identify and communicate facility and equipment improvement opportunities to the Fitness Manager.
Member Experience & Service Excellence
- Promote a positive, professional, and welcoming Member experience throughout all fitness spaces.
- Support Fitness Consultants in delivering exceptional Member service standards.
- Address operational and facility-related member concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Build strong relationships with Members and staff to promote engagement, retention, and satisfaction.
- Support departmental initiatives designed to enhance the overall fitness experience.
Budget & Resource Stewardship
- Provide recommendations related to operational improvements, equipment needs, facility enhancements, and staffing resources.
- Support inventory management and operational supply management of capital assets
- Participate in departmental planning processes and contribute operational insights and recommendations.
Knowledge & Skills Required

Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Recreation Management, or related field preferred
2. Current CPR and First Aid certifications
3. 4-6 years related experience in a Fitness Environment
4. 3-5 years of supervisory experience
5. Additional certifications and associations in the industry are an asset, e.g. certification through CSEP/CPT, AFLCA, Can-Fit-Pro, etc.
