The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Safety Coordinator to support and enhance safety programs within our manufacturing operation.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with employees and leaders, building relationships on the production floor, and driving a proactive safety culture. The successful candidate will serve as a key resource for day-to-day safety program execution, supporting compliance activities, coordinating training, participating in incident investigations, and identifying opportunities to continuously improve workplace safety performance.

Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, the Safety Coordinator plays an important role in fostering an engaged, accountable, and safety-focused workplace.

What You’ll Do

Safety Culture & Program Development

- Promote a proactive safety culture and serve as a visible presence on the plant floor and support annual safety objectives, action plans, and corporate safety initiatives.

- Build strong relationships with employees, supervisors, and leaders to encourage hazard reporting, near-miss reporting, and active participation in safety initiatives.

- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs, policies, procedures, and Safe Work Instructions.

- Coordinate safety awareness campaigns, behavioural safety initiatives, and employee engagement activities

Incident Management, Risk Assessment & Investigations

- Coordinate and participate in workplace incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations.





- Conduct root cause analyses and support the development and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.

- Lead or facilitate Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and hazard identification activities and support implementation of hazard controls using the hierarchy of controls.

- Track incident trends and provide recommendations to reduce workplace risk and improve safety performance.

Training & Employee Development

- Coordinate and facilitate employee safety orientation and training programs.

- Develop, review, and enhance safety training materials and resources.

- Maintain training records and monitor compliance requirements.

- Evaluate training effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

- Support employee onboarding activities related to workplace safety.

Compliance, Audits & Operational Support

- Conduct workplace inspections, safety observations, and hazard assessments.

- Participate in internal and external safety audits and compliance reviews.

- Coordinate and support critical safety programs including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, contractor safety, confined space entry, and PPE compliance.

- Support contractor onboarding, qualification, and compliance verification activities.

- Maintain SDS documentation and support WHMIS program administration.

- Identify compliance gaps and partner with operational leaders to implement corrective actions.

- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.

Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)

- Coordinate JHSC meetings and activities.

- Prepare agendas, meeting minutes, and related documentation.

- Track action items and support committee follow-up activities.

- Participate in workplace inspections and committee-led safety initiatives.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

- Track, analyze, and report leading and lagging safety indicators.

- Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports, dashboards, and KPI metrics.

- Maintain safety records, documentation, and data management systems.

- Analyze safety performance trends and provide recommendations for improvement.





- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives and small safety-focused projects that strengthen workplace safety performance.

Qualifications

Education

- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.

Experience

- Minimum 2+ years of Canadian health and safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, warehousing, logistics, distribution, construction, or other operational environments.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, workplace inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
- Experience using safety management systems and reporting tools.

Knowledge & Skills

- Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- Solid organizational, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to analyze safety data and develop meaningful KPI reporting.
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with employees and leaders across departments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

- JHSC Certification Part I and II.
- Incident Investigation training.
- Experience facilitating structured root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay range for this role is set at 65,000 72,000. It is important to note that this position may also qualify for discretionary bonuses or commission payments. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location.
