About the Opportunity
Infinite Outsourcing Solutions (IOS) is currently recruiting an experienced Maintenance Supervisor on behalf of one of our established clients located in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Reporting to the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Supervisor will support the management of a maintenance team consisting of approximately 18–20 unionized employees responsible for industrial maintenance of food-production equipment in a fast-paced 24/7 manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will provide positive leadership while supervising, supporting, coaching, and developing the maintenance team to ensure the facility and production equipment remain in optimal operating condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support the maintenance team in the preventive maintenance and repair of production equipment.
- Minimize equipment failures, production losses, and unplanned downtime while maximizing the useful life of plant equipment and infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and food hygiene and safety standards.
- Coordinate with external contractors and, when required, government agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Plan maintenance crew schedules using maintenance scheduling and work-order systems.
- Assign and delegate maintenance activities based on operational priorities.
- Review and approve the completion and closeout of work orders for employees and external contractors.
- Manage maintenance-room parts, tools, supplies, and inventory.
- Ensure maintenance activities and projects are completed within required timelines.
- Identify employee training and development needs and provide ongoing coaching.
- Support maintenance employees in diagnosing and resolving complex technical problems.
- Promote teamwork, effective communication, and active listening across the maintenance team.
- Manage employee performance, attendance, absenteeism, discipline, and interpersonal issues.
- Act as a positive change leader, supporting employee engagement and the implementation of improved maintenance practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- College diploma/DEC in Industrial Mechanics or Electrotechnology, OR a professional diploma/DEP in Electromechanics, or equivalent relevant technical education.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience supervising a unionized industrial maintenance team.
- Previous experience in a food-production or food-manufacturing facility is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a facility certified under a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) standard is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
- Experience managing maintenance-room inventory.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of automated production processes and packaging technology is an asset.
- Knowledge of PLC systems, particularly Allen-Bradley, is an asset.
- Experience with EAM preventive maintenance software is an asset.
- Knowledge of Kronos is an asset.
