Primary Function

Under the supervision and guidance of experienced glass installers and technicians, the Glass Apprentice assists with the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of residential, commercial, and automotive glass products for Top Cat Services and Glass Doctor.

The Glass Apprentice will learn and develop the skills necessary to perform safe, efficient, and high-quality glass work while supporting installation teams, maintaining equipment and vehicles, assisting with material handling, completing material and inventory runs, and keeping work areas clean and safe.

Specific Duties

- Assist experienced technicians with the repair, removal, replacement, and installation of residential, commercial, and automotive glass.
- Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and handling glass, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Learn and assist with accurate field measurements.
- Assist with cutting, preparing, and handling flat glass and mirrors according to specified dimensions and patterns, as directed by experienced technicians.
- Support technicians with the preparation and installation of glazing materials, hardware, and accessories.
- Assist with maintaining adequate stock of materials, tools, and glazing accessories on company vehicles.
- Support inventory management by assisting with material counts, organization, and inventory runs.
- Travel to the company's North Vancouver location as required to pick up materials, complete inventory runs, and transport materials and equipment to other company locations or job sites.
- Complete supplier pickups and deliveries as required, ensuring materials are transported and secured safely.
- Support technicians and the operations team with the movement of materials between company locations and job sites.
- Help ensure materials are used efficiently and appropriately.
- Follow all company safety procedures and safe work practices when handling glass, tools, equipment, and materials.
- Work cooperatively with installers, technicians, supervisors, and other team members.
- Maintain a respectful and qualified attitude when interacting with customers, coworkers, suppliers, and other members of the public.
- Assist with maintaining company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order and condition.




- Assist with loading and securing materials and equipment for transportation to and from job sites.
- Clean work areas before, during, and after installations to ensure a safe and professional environment.
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining company shops, facilities, vehicles, and work areas.
- Follow direction from experienced technicians and supervisors and ask questions when clarification or additional training is required.
- Represent Top Cat Services and Glass Doctor professionally while working at customer homes, businesses, job sites, supplier locations, and company facilities.
- Participate in cross-training and learn skills related to other positions and areas of the business as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Eagerness to learn and develop skills in the glass installation and service industry.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required for the position.
- Ability to perform physical work, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, loading, unloading, and handling materials and equipment.
- Valid driver's licence and a clean driver's abstract.
- Ability to safely operate company vehicles for supplier pickups, material and inventory runs, transportation between company locations, and other business-related duties.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and instructions when working with glass, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with supervisors, coworkers, suppliers, and customers.
- Willingness to learn and work as part of an installation team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing job site conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and follow direction.
- Professional demeanor and appearance when representing Top Cat Services and Glass Doctor.
- Basic organizational and time-management skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.




- Previous experience in the glass industry is not required. Training will be provided to individuals who demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop their skills.

Physical Requirements

This position involves regular physical activity and working in a variety of residential, commercial, automotive, shop, supplier, and outdoor environments.

The successful candidate must be able to:

- Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Load and unload glass, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, reach, kneel, climb, and work in various positions as required.
- Safely handle glass and related materials under the direction of experienced technicians.
- Work in varying weather and job-site conditions when required.
- Safely load, secure, and transport materials and equipment.
- Travel to the North Vancouver location and supplier locations as required.
- Follow all required safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Driving Requirements

Driving is a regular component of this position. The successful candidate must maintain a valid driver's licence and clean driver's abstract and be able to operate company vehicles safely and responsibly.

Driving duties may include:

- Material and inventory runs to the North Vancouver location.
- Supplier pickups and deliveries.
- Transporting glass, materials, tools, and equipment between company locations and job sites.
- Supporting technicians and installation crews with material transportation.
- Other company-related driving as required.

Training and Development

This position is intended for an individual who wants to learn and develop a career in the glass industry. The Glass Apprentice will receive hands-on training and work under the supervision of experienced installers and technicians.

The goal is to progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to safely and independently perform glass installation and service work.

Note: Previous experience in the glass industry is not required. A willingness to learn, follow instructions, work safely, maintain a clean driver's abstract, and contribute positively to the team is essential.

Pay: $25.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Work Location: On the road
