Medical Director – Medical Aesthetics

Job Overview
Frida Beauty Bar is seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Director to provide clinical oversight for our injectable and medical aesthetic services at our Marda Loop and Renfrew locations in Calgary.
We are open to applications from both physicians (MDs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who have experience or a solid understanding of medical aesthetics and injectable treatments.
This is a flexible, fully remote, independent contractor position suited to a healthcare professional who is comfortable providing clinical oversight, supporting a team of nurse injectors and ensuring that patient care meets applicable professional and regulatory standards.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our clinical team to support safe, evidence-informed patient care and maintain appropriate clinical policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight for injectable and medical aesthetic treatments offered at Frida Beauty Bar.
- Conduct appropriate patient assessments, including reviewing medical histories, evaluating treatment suitability and establishing individualized treatment plans.
- Provide patient-specific orders and clinical authorization for treatments, in accordance with applicable professional standards and scope of practice.
- Provide appropriate clinical oversight and supervision of Registered Nurses performing injectable treatments, as required.
- Remain available to support nurse injectors with clinical questions, complications and adverse outcomes.
- Review, develop and approve clinical treatment protocols and policies.
- Establish and maintain appropriate medication orders and standing orders, where clinically appropriate and within professional scope.
- Support the clinical team with medication management, including applicable medications used in aesthetic treatments.
- Conduct regular chart reviews and audits to support accurate documentation, quality assurance and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with management and nursing staff to promote patient safety and consistent clinical practices.
- Participate in the review and continuous improvement of clinical policies, procedures and patient care standards.
Education and Experience
- Active, unrestricted medical licence with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) or an active Nurse Practitioner practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Experience or demonstrated competency in medical aesthetics, injectable treatments or a related clinical field.
- Knowledge of neuromodulators, dermal fillers and other injectable aesthetic treatments.
- Completion of a recognized neuromodulator fundamentals course or equivalent relevant training.
- Current professional liability insurance appropriate to the services provided.
- A commitment to evidence-informed practice, patient safety and applicable professional and regulatory standards.
- Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills.
Working Conditions
Hours: Flexible. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that patient assessments, clinical authorizations and documentation are completed within appropriate clinical timeframes and in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.
The anticipated time commitment is approximately 1–2 hours per week for chart reviews, clinical assessments and administrative responsibilities, with additional time as required.
Work Environment: This is a fully remote, independent contractor position. The Medical Director will work collaboratively with the clinic's nursing team and management.
Availability: Must be reasonably accessible by phone during clinic operating hours to provide clinical consultation and support when needed.
Workplace Policies and Agreements
- Must be willing to sign confidentiality agreements and comply with clinic privacy policies.
- Must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and comply with applicable conflict-of-interest policies.
- Must maintain all required professional licences, permits and liability insurance throughout the term of the agreement.
Evaluation and Review
Clinical oversight arrangements will be reviewed regularly to ensure that patient assessments, clinical documentation, treatment authorizations and quality assurance activities are completed in accordance with applicable professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Monthly chart audits and periodic reviews will be conducted to support ongoing quality assurance and patient safety.
