Just a Warm Sleep Shelter Evening And Overnight Host
There are 7 Temporary positions available.
Term Position to March 31, 2027.
Start date: Position starts October 2026 with paid training.
Position 1, Evening Part Time: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. 20 hours per week $20.72 per hour. 1 position available.
Position 2, Evening Part Time: 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. 20 hours per week $20.72 per hour. 2 positions available.
Position 3, Evening Part Time: 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. 20 hours per week $20.72 per hour. 2 positions available.
Position 4, Overnight, Full Time: 10:15 p.m. to 8:15 a.m. 40 hours per week $20.72 per hour plus $1 overnight premium during the hours of 12:00am - 8:00am. 1 position available. (4 Days a week)
Position 5, Overnight Part Time: 10:15 p.m. to 8:15 a.m. 30 hours per week $20.72 per hour plus $1 overnight premium during the hours of 12:00am - 8:00am. 1 position available. (3 Days a week)

About 1JustCity
1JustCity supports over 1,200 people each week facing poverty, homelessness, mental health challenges, addiction, and social isolation.
In winter, we operate an emergency warming shelter offering a safe place to sleep, meals, showers, laundry, and evening activities such as movies, games, and culturally relevant programs.

Job Purpose
Provide safe, low-barrier support to shelter guests using a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach, in line with 1JustCity’s vision and four pillars.
Key Responsibilities
- Register/sign out guests in HIFIS.
- Monitor well-being, respond to incidents, and complete reports.
- Provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and first aid.
- Maintain cleanliness and follow health/safety protocols.
- Distribute and prepare resources (food, clothing, hygiene items, bus tickets).
- Share information and connect guests to housing/community supports.
- Heat or prepare simple meals using a recipe and commercial equipment.
Qualifications
- Education in addictions/mental health (asset).
- Training: Valid First Aid/CPR, and Naloxone are required.
- Valid NVCI, ASIST and Food Handler Certificates are an asset.
- 1–2 years’ experience with homelessness, trauma, or marginalized populations.
- Knowledge of harm reduction, poverty, Indigenous culture, and community resources.
- Clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector, and Adult Abuse Registry checks.
Skills
- Solid teamwork, problem-solving, and boundaries.
- Able to work under stress with a non-judgmental attitude.
- Physically able to bend, lift, and stand/walk for long periods (up to 50 lbs).
