Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Hand – Red Seal Truck & Transport Mechanic to join their maintenance team in Halifax, NS.

This is a hands-on working Lead Hand position for an experienced mechanic who enjoys working with tools while providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to other technicians.

The successful candidate will be a robust technician with excellent diagnostic and electrical skills, a solid background in Truck & Transport mechanics, and the ability to teach, mentor, and inspire a team.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform hands-on mechanical repairs, maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain buses, coaches, support vehicles, and related equipment.
- Perform complex troubleshooting and assist other technicians with difficult repairs.
- Use strong diagnostic and electrical skills to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Perform diesel engine repairs and maintenance.
- Complete preventative maintenance and required inspections.
- Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Work alongside other technicians as a senior working mechanic.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other mechanics.
- Mentor, teach, and train new employees and apprentices.
- Share technical knowledge, best practices, and protected work procedures.
- Help coordinate day-to-day work and maintenance priorities.
- Lead by example and promote teamwork, communication, and a positive work environment.
- Encourage and reinforce safe work practices and company procedures.
- Review completed work to ensure repairs meet quality and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of repairs and maintenance activities.
- Assist with parts requirements and inventory control.
- Participate in meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with emergency breakdowns and after-hours support when required.

What We're Looking For

- Red Seal Truck & Transport Mechanic certification – required.
- 5-10 years of progressive Truck & Transport mechanical experience.




- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting skills, electrical knowledge, solid diesel engines, preventative maintenance and inspection etc.
- Strong hands-on mechanical ability and comfortable working with tools regularly.
- Experience working with buses, coaches, commercial vehicles, or fleet equipment is an asset.
- Strong Truck & Transport experience is highly valued.
- Previous experience mentoring, teaching, or guiding apprentices and technicians.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and support a team.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's licence. Class 2 or Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement is an asset.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
