Job Title: Residential AV & Smart Home Installation Technician
Job Type: Full-Time
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Residential AV & Smart Home Installation Technician to install, program, and support high-end home automation systems. In this role, you will act as the primary field installer and integrator for premium residential systems (Control4, RTI, URC) and deploy the dedicated, localized equipment networks that keep them running.
This is a physical, in-field trade role requiring hands-on tool work, on-site structural wiring, and device mounting. This is NOT a corporate IT, software development, or remote network administration position.
Key Responsibilities
- Smart Home Installation & Programming: Set up, wire, mount, and program Control4, RTI, and URC systems for premium residential properties.
- Low-Voltage & Subsystem Wiring: Pull, terminate, and test low-voltage cables for automated lighting (Lutron), multi-room audio/video systems, motorized shades, and home theaters.
- Hardware Integration & Mounting: Physically mount TVs, speakers, projection screens, smart locks, IP surveillance cameras, and DSC alarm hardware.
- Rack Dressing & Setup: Build, organize, and cleanly terminate equipment racks on-site with clean cable management. [1]
- On-Site System Testing: Configure basic localized router/switch settings (such as setting up Ubiquiti or AltaLabs gear) strictly to get the AV hardware communicating.
- Client Handoff: Walk homeowners through their new system, set up personalized scenes, and provide friendly user training.
Qualifications & Field Skills
- Home Automation Systems: Direct, hands-on field experience installing and programming Control4 environments (RTI/URC or Lutron experience is a major plus).
- Low-Voltage Mastery:
Expert knowledge of audio/video signal flow, rack termination, RJ45/coax crimping, and reading residential floor plans.
- Basic AV Equipment Setup: Familiarity with connecting localized smart home routers, managed switches, and wireless access points (Ubiquiti, AltaLabs, Araknis, OVRC, etc.) specifically for AV communication.
- Physical & Trade Skills: Comfortable using power tools, running wire through walls/attics, climbing ladders, and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Requirements: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and pass a background check.
KEY NOTE FOR APPLICANTS (PLEASE READ)This is an on-site, physical trade position involving field construction, low-voltage wiring, and hardware installation. Applications from corporate IT Helpdesk, Software Developers, Cloud Architects, or System Administrators with no hands-on residential AV wiring experience will not be considered.
