Job Purpose/Summary

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to join our team! The HR Specialist will act as a resource to RFN leaders and employees, providing guidance and support on a variety of human resources strategies and efforts with a primary focus on all people-related matters. This position supports organizational success and ensures alignment with RFN policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation.

Qualifications

Education:

- College Diploma in related field.
- CHRP or CHRL designation preferred (or working towards) or equivalent experience working in a Human Resources Department.

Skills and Abilities:

- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to motivate and guide.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation and HR best practices.
- Results oriented with sound judgement and initiative.
- Excellent communication, engagement and relationship building skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive HR issues with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.

Experience:

- Strong HR Generalist experience (minimum 4 years).
- Strong people management experience with direct accountability in employee relations including conducting workplace investigations.
- Experience in labour relations preferred.
- Experience working with First Nation communities/organizations an asset.

Other:

- A Vulnerable Sector Screening is required for this position.

Key Job Functions/Responsibilities

All HR Specialists will participate in all HR Core Functional Areas and will have dedicated oversight of one or two specific functional areas as assigned and which may vary from time to time.





- Lead and/or assist with processes and workflows for Recruitment, Employee Relations, Labour Relations, Compensation, Group insurance & Pension Benefits, Training & Development, Compliance and HRIS as assigned.
- Provide superior level HR services through a community and trauma informed lens that supports a positive work environment for all employees.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with RFN leaders to ensure understanding of department needs in order to provide relevant and appropriate guidance and services.
- Provide coaching, counselling and answering inquiries from RFN Leaders and employees on policies and procedures relating to employment with Rama First Nation.
- Provide guidance and support and leader coaching on a variety of employee relations, labour relations and performance management issues.
- Conduct workplace investigations relating to workplace conflict, harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, etc.
- Coordinate recruitment workflows geared at attracting a pool of talented candidates and hiring candidates who fit within the culture of Rama First Nation.
- Ensure compliance to RFN policies and employment legislation.
- Maintain knowledge of all employment related policy, law and legislation.
- Recommend revisions to RFN policies to ensure all policies, procedures and practices adhere to all relevant legislation, including: Canada Labour Code, Employment Standards Act, common law, Canadian Human Rights Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, etc.
- Ensure strict confidentiality at all times.
- Other duties as may be required to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Pay: From $36.83 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
