Position Overview
We are currently looking for Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a PSW who enjoys providing one-on-one, person-centred care and is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for clients.
Flexible availability is required, including weekday and weekend availability.
Key Responsibilities
As a PSW with Lending Hand Home Care, your responsibilities may include:
- Provide compassionate, respectful, and protected assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
- Assist clients with mobility, transfers, positioning, and other physical support as required.
- Monitor clients and their environment to promote safety and well-being.
- Observe and report changes in a client's condition, behaviour, or environment to the appropriate supervisor or healthcare professional.
- Support clients with safe arrival and departure from appointments, programs, or other activities as required.
- Assist with meal preparation,
laundry, light housekeeping, and other household routines related to the client's care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, care notes, and required records.
- Complete and submit incident reports when required.
- Respond calmly, professionally, and appropriately during emergency situations and provide assistance as directed.
- Support Community Nurses and other healthcare professionals with client care and health assessments as required.
- Assist with or lead client activities and programs as appropriate.
- Promote client independence, dignity, choice, and quality of life.
- Follow individualized care plans, safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and company policies.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with clients, families, coworkers, and healthcare professionals.
- Report any actual or potential concerns, changes, or problems to the Director or designate.
- Perform other duties related to the position as required.
Required Qualifications
Required:
- Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a recognized program.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid and recent Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Valid TB test completed within the past 12 months.
- Ability to work independently while also being a positive and collaborative member of a care team.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to client homes is an asset.
Additional qualifications and experience considered an asset:
- Minimum 2 years of PSW experience.
- Experience providing complex medical care.
- U-First certification.
- Safe Food Handler certification.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Experience working with clients with complex care needs, dementia, palliative care needs, or mobility challenges.
