About Tutor Doctor Richmond Hill

Tutor Doctor Richmond Hill provides personalized 1:1 tutoring to students across Richmond Hill and surrounding communities. We work with families to help students strengthen academic skills, keep up with schoolwork, prepare for assessments, and develop greater confidence as learners.

We are looking for an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) who enjoys working directly with students and wants the flexibility of part-time tutoring.

This is an opportunity for an experienced educator who understands the Ontario Curriculum and knows how to adapt instruction to the individual student—not simply help with homework.

The Role

As an OCT Tutor, you will provide personalized 1:1 instruction to elementary and/or middle-school students, primarily JK–Grade 8.

You may work with students who need support with:

- Mathematics
- English / Language
- Reading and writing
- Science
- Social Studies
- Study skills and organization
- Homework and assignment support
- Test and assessment preparation
- Academic skill development

Your specific assignments will be matched to your qualifications, teaching experience, subject strengths, location, and availability.

You do not need to be an expert in every subject. We are interested in teachers who have strong demonstrated competency in the subjects and grades they support.

What You'll Do

- Deliver engaging, structured 1:1 tutoring sessions
- Use the Ontario Curriculum to guide instruction
- Identify student strengths, gaps, and learning needs
- Adapt teaching strategies to the individual learner
- Reinforce classroom concepts and build foundational skills
- Support homework, assignments, projects, and test preparation
- Teach students strategies that encourage independent learning

- Communicate professionally with parents and the Tutor Doctor team
- Provide brief session feedback following tutoring sessions
- Maintain punctuality, professionalism, and consistent communication
- Create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes

What We're Looking ForRequired

- Current Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification
- Teaching experience in an Ontario school setting
- Solid knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum
- Experience teaching elementary and/or middle-school students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation for in-home assignments when required
- Ability to work independently and manage 1:1 instruction effectively
- Professionalism and reliability

Strongly Preferred

- 2+ years of classroom teaching experience
- Experience differentiating instruction for students with different learning needs
- Experience supporting students who require additional academic reinforcement
- Strong skills in Math, English/Language, Reading, Writing, or Science
- Experience with assessment and individualized instruction

Who Would Be a Great Fit?

This role may be a great fit for:

- OCT-certified teachers looking for part-time work
- Current teachers looking to supplement their income

- Retired or recently retired OCT teachers who enjoy working with students
- Teachers who enjoy individualized instruction
- Educators looking for flexible evening or weekend work
- Teachers who want to make a direct impact with students through 1:1 instruction

Schedule

Tutoring schedules vary depending on student needs.

Most assignments are during:

- Weekday afternoons/evenings
- Weekends
- After-school hours

You can indicate your preferred grades, subjects, geographic area, and availability, and we will match you with appropriate student opportunities.

Location

Assignments may be:

- In the student's home
- Online
- At another mutually agreed-upon location

Assignments are primarily within the Richmond Hill / Vaughan / Markham area.

Why Tutor Doctor?

At Tutor Doctor Richmond Hill, we believe tutoring should be more than simply helping a student finish their homework.

As an OCT tutor, you'll have the opportunity to use your professional teaching experience in a personalized 1:1 setting while maintaining flexibility in your schedule.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and include:

- Your OCT certification status
