Relief Youth Worker (Shelter Support)

Job Type: Part-Time (Relief/Casual)
Pay: $19.00–$20.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 20–40 hours per week
Position Summary
Kinnect Support Services is seeking compassionate and dependable Relief Youth Workers to provide support to youth residing in emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. The successful candidate will help create a secure, supportive, and structured setting while assisting youth in achieving their personal goals and increasing their independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, supervision, and support to youth in a residential shelter setting.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment while ensuring the well-being of all residents.
- Build positive, professional relationships with youth using a trauma-informed and client-centered approach.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized case plans in accordance with City of Toronto Shelter Standards.
- Provide ongoing case management and connect youth with appropriate community resources and support services.
- Plan, facilitate, and evaluate recreational, educational, and life skills programming.
- Support youth with daily routines, behavioural interventions, conflict resolution, and independent living skills.
- Monitor medication routines by observing and documenting medication administration as required.
- Complete accurate case notes, incident reports, documentation, and data entry using the Shelter Management Information System (SMIS).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment by completing light housekeeping and household maintenance tasks.
- Accompany youth to appointments and advocate for their needs when appropriate.
- Follow all agency policies, Ministry regulations, health and safety requirements, and professional standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in a related field such as:
- Child and Youth Care (CYC/CYCP)
- Social Service Worker (SSW)
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
- Psychology, Sociology, or a related Human Services program
- Minimum one (1) year of experience supporting at-risk adolescents or homeless youth, preferably within a shelter or residential setting.
- Solid understanding of trauma-informed care, youth development, and crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of homelessness, mental health, addictions, and community resources available to youth.
- Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and make appropriate decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
Required Certifications
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Certification
- Valid UMAB (Understanding & Managing Aggressive Behaviour) Certification
- Valid CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) Certification
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or equivalent suicide prevention/intervention training
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (minimum two doses of a Health Canada-approved vaccine)

Availability is required for a variety of shifts, including:
- Days
- Evenings
- Overnights
- Weekdays
- Weekends
- Holidays, as required
